New (Well Used, but you get me) Nikon Body?

I'm looking to get a different Nikon Body, as I want a camera that's robust, and has an auto-focus mechanism in the body than need one in the lens.

I was looking at a Nikon D200, or a D80 and was wondering which would be best? (I'm leaning towards a D200 really).

Also, I want to know if anybody has used CEX, as with my D60 and Lens I can get a D200 body for about £170, although my D60 is completely mint.

Fuji S5 Pro - had a look/use of FITPs [graham] recently - excellent bit of kit @ £400

also been watching D200 - ditto ....prefer the D200 just cos it's Nikon :cuckoo:
 
iirc they're the same sensor... I'd go for the d200 any day, the handling is much nicer than the d80, and the price difference is negligible.
 
Same sensor, but not the same processing software...
 
Definitely go for a D200 over a D80.

The D200 is basically the D2x's little brother. It's the lowest end pro body in the D2 family. The D80 is a consumer level plastic body (the D200 is a magnesium alloy body and is weather sealed - much more robust).

Just go to Google and search for D200 vs D80 or do a spec comparison between the two bodies on DP review to see a full list of differences.

You might want to also consider a D2x. Used, the difference between a D200+Grip and a D2x is only about £50.

I'd rather stick to Nikon due to the higher availability of lenses at better prices really.

Does anyone think CEX do a good offer of a Nikon D60 with 18-55 lens for £221, and Nikon D200 Body is £395, so £174. Comes with a 1 year warranty as well?

The S5 Pro uses nikon glass. :)
 
Go for an Fuji s5 pro if you can...its a D200 with a much better sensor fitted and it handles noise a lot better.............
 
I've read S5's are only good on people, which is not what I shoot at all?

CEX don't do S5's anyway. Only D200's. Anyone know if London Camera Exchange offer a decent deal on trade in's?
 
I had a D200 and an S5 (essentially a superior Fuji sensor in a D200 body) at the same time, I still have the S5, the D200 was sent on it's way ages ago.

If it was between a D200 and a D80 (I've owned the D80 too) the D200 would win every time. However if it was between the D80/200 or S5 and I wasn't planning to shoot motorsports then it'd be an S5.
 
Well I've put up my D60 for sale, and if I can sell it, then I'll look at the Fuji S5 pro with more interest. Cheers guys!

No but I have a mint boxed one with a very low shutter count I might part with for £450 as I have 2 :)

How low a shutter count? Can you get me some pics please? Not sure if you could PM me them or not.
 
Another vote for the D200. Helen (Mrs C) switched from a D40x (basically a D60) to a D300 (virtually the same as the D200) and it transformed her entire photo taking experience. It is vastly easier to use a pro body rather than an amateur body or even a semi pro body because on the pro body (D200) you have instant access to all the normal controls plus all the variables that we need to adjust in order to control the picture taking.

I have a D700 plus a D200. I use the D200 at work most days and have no plans to replace it or sell it. It was a top camera and nothing has changed. If you DO plan to get a grip to go with it then have a look at a D2x to start with...

It's why I want a D200, as I want an easy to use pro body, and have the auto focus in the camera mainly. Also I want a sturdy camera rather than plastic. I have a budget off around £450 max so the D2x is out of my budget really. I'm looking at getting a grip a bit later on, but not now.

Go for it then. You should get a D200 for that. Have you stuck an advert in the wanted section?
 
Not yet, I've prov sold my D60, and just waiting for that sale to go through.

Well the camera maintenance counter showed around 800 the last time I looked...I got it as a back up camera and it never got much use...hence the mint condition..I will try and get you some pics later :)

Barry, you will need to put an advert in the for sale section prior to selling it on TP as selling outside of the for sale section is against the rules. :rules:

Same, even though I have a D300s, I still kept and use my D200 for events (because of the WiFi grip) and studio work (because it'll shoot true ISO100 - which is much cleaner than the D300s' L1.0 equivalent).
 
i'm certainly happy with my D200 :)

i'm still learning all the time & a camera like the D200 will let you do just that :thumbs: i just found some additional variables in a sub menu i never even knew existed until a few days ago :bonk:

the only thing i find not so good is the noise at higher ISOs but for most uses this isn't a problem at all. its a solid piece of kit & should serve you well :thumbs:
