New Website

Whilst the content isn't exactly my cup of tea, Andy, I've been around the site and everything seems to work and the general flow looks okay.

Firefox on this occasion. I use Chrome for regular stuff and Firefox for "one off" type site visits and searches.

Your work is very lucid and direct and your website serves it well. Loads very snappily! No glitches noticed. Firefox.

A nice website Andy, I like the minimalist style and it flows nicely. The only thing I can see is your tag line is 'wedding & portrait photographer' but the first and only wedding image on your home page is at the very bottom (18th or 19th image?). Is there any information on your portraiture services as I couldn't see that or about your music photography . I like the Q&A section, it's different and a nice way to learn more about you. There are some great images on there too.

Thanks for checking it all out so thoroughly. It is actually a conscious decision as I'm currently making the transition into wedding work. My aim is to be 100% wedding work within a few years.

As soon as I've shot more weddings I'll be taking the portraits off and keeping it all wedding (or moving them to another website). This is my only concern right now being branded a wedding photographer without much wedding work on my site.

The Q&A is fun and that's the intention so glad it worked :)

Thanks again for taking the time and feedback, much appreciated.

Nice site. I don't know if you did this or paid someone to do it, but your email address is in plain text in the code. <a href="mailto:mail@andyhayballphoto.com" target="_blank">Contact</a>

Not a bad idea to change ASCII encoding into character entities to 'hide' it from those pesky spambots otherwise you risk bucket loads of spam.

Thanks for the insight, I have no idea how to do that :( it's a customizable Squarespace website so I have no idea on the coding. I'll research this though, thanks again! Much appreciated :)

I've read some very good arguments for just putting your text written email on you site in plain site. I do it and don't suffer much spam at all. I get more through my letterbox and through nuisance phone calls.

My wife uses gmail and it seems to do a great job of filtering the spam. I use fastmail and have my spam tagged rather than filtered out so that I see every email. I get about 10 spam emails a week I'd say.

As for spam, I made the mistake some years ago and got BUCKET loads, was a real, nasty pita. Now I always recommend hiding it - its not a perfect solution but it does keep the numpties away. Can't imagine what 'good' arguments for plain text might be, unless you've seen this: "Putting the unadorned email address on the page makes it easier for people who use web mail to copy and paste your email address into another browser tab (or window)." Simple solution, put the clickable link or other text with your email address into character entities too, it will show up in the browser in normal text, to copy and paste.

Thanks for your input, I've zero knowledge of coding, how can I hide the email in simple terms?

Thanks again, much appreciated :)

Re: Spam. The argument against obfuscating the email is that it puts steps between potential clients getting in touch. Worst case of spam I ever got was from Adobe getting hacked.

Actually, no it doesn't. Using character entities just 'hides' it in the html file. It doesn't affect how the browser interprets it, so the user can see it the same as if it was in plain text.

If you can edit the code directly, just google "email encode" and one of the top sites gives you a simple way to type in your email address and then copy the resulting character entities and paste it where your email address should appear.

Ok thanks very much! [emoji106]

Hi I really like the site, (viewing it on an iPad) can see any problems at all. Out of curiosity is it a Wordpress site?
