New website

The layout of your website is good.. all the important info on the left and where your based at the top.. very important and those boxes ticked..

I kep seeing large grey boxes...it was only after being on your page a while that pictures appeared.. I fear your picture slideshow is too big...it will load fast for you because its in your cache..already on your computer.. but the rest of us it takes and age to ahppen.. I could easily have left by the time your pics appear..

Too much dog info.. some people really dont liek them you know :) Also it says theres a pic of you and dogs but all I get is a greay square no matter how long i wait.. same on other pages..

the menu down the left as i say is in the perfect place.. but its static.. nothing happens to show its a link.. mouse doesnt change..its just words i know to click on.. will everyone..

PS .. Your wedding pics are good.. thats your strong point.. you need to get them on screen quick to grab peoples attention

Thank you

Im not sure how to solve the issue with the pictures taking ages to up-load? I want them to be in high res so thats why they are full size images. Do you think it could be due to the fact the website is only on a trial at the moment as i havent changed my domain name across from my current website and havent subscribed?

With regards to the dogs - thats who i am, i dont have children, i have dogs so im dont know why that is a problem? Could you explain a bit more what you mean about this please?
The picture should be of me, my husband and the dogs on my wedding day.

Also the mouse thing....when i hover over the menu choice i get a little hand with a pointy finger instead of the arrow??

theres no picture at all.. theres a grey box top right corner which i suspect should have a picture?

dogs..its a business website to attract customers.. telling them all about your dogs and how you had them at your wedding.. just doesnt work for me.. supposing someone with a pocket full of money who doesnt like dogs is reading.. sounds like you would have them with you ....equally i wouldnt bang on about my kids either so its not that :)

oh yeagh.,. oops i hadnt noticed that before.. am more used to the menu changing instead :)

Home page title needs to be more meaningful/descriptive - currently it's The Right Moments Photography. Should include 'wedding' at the very least.

Agree with KIPAX about the 'about me' section. No offence but there's far too much waffle. If I'm a punter looking for a wedding photographer sorry but I couldn't give a monkey's about your love of dogs/racehorses etc, I want to know what your experience is, if you have any training, any awards etc..

Also using an image for the background means that the text/background contrast varies as you scroll, making it difficult to read. Better to use a solid colour. The light grey you are using for the font is too faint and is difficult to read when the background is the blue sky.

Image on the 'about me' page is not displaying.

Hope this helps :)

Just noticed you switch between first and third person in different bits of the site, e.g. first on the 'about me' page, and third on the 'services' page. Should be one or the other throughout the site. Just my own personal but referring to yourself in the third person comes across as a bit distant/weird - better to use first.

It does say wedding photographer under the business name?

I do take your point about the 'about me stuff' Ill work on changing that tonight and see if i can write something else about myself

I did think that i should do one or the other but when i was looking around at other sites this way seemed to be the most popular so i thought it was the professional way :bonk: I will change that to the same way my current website is!

That's not the page title, it's just a heading.

The page title is important for SEO, bookmarks, accessibility and currently doesn't mention weddings:

<title>The Right Moments Photography</title>

Not familiar with smugmug but I imagine the page title is just a free text field in the back-end, so should be easy to change.

Also, just noticed the text on the services page is centred. Centred paragraph text is the work of Satan and all his little helpers ;)

Yep thats the grey boxes I get I am afraid..

is it a firefox thing or are you guys on IE .. can we at least eliminate browser problem?

yayyyy - i know what i did wrong and it was a simple mistake!!
I had an album of images i wanted to use on the pages that were not in my portfolios and the setting for these were on Private which is why only i could bloody see them!!! :bonk::bonk::bonk:

Anyway i have now made them public!

Im also in the middle of changing the text to say Me instead of Helen (as tho written by someone else) and im going to try and think of something else to say 'about me'!

Thanks everyone for your help and advice - always good to have :)

Anymore tips and advice is much appreciated

Hello Helen. I can see its a smugmug site, not keen on all the bloated coding it gives you and the home page has virtually nothing for the search engines to index.
On the portfolio page the images irritatingly scroll up and down while loading. Are they optimized?
Your title still does not say 'helen ansell wedding photographer cornwall etc'.
You are using a yahoo email address - it doesn't look very professional. Get one for the domain and redirect to yahoo if necesary.
Best,
