Yes
I finally got around to updating my website last night, and it seems to be loading a bit slow on my laptop and work computers, not sure if that's the internet I'm on or whether I need to compress the images more, I'd appreciate if you could check how fast it loads and let me know so I can reupload the images if needs be.

Cheers!

Works fine for me, your linky loads in under 7 seconds and each page or gallery within around 3 to 4 seconds. I am on BTinfinity which is 60mb down and 18mb up.

Works OK for me, faster than some sites esp littered with advertising and cookies.

Seems to load fine here on Chrome.

I've got a small bit of feedback regarding the design if you're interested? Nothing particularly groundbreaking.

A good free test tool is https://www.pingdom.com/free/
It will test your site for free every 60 seconds so you can keep tabs on response time.

Quite a useful tool for pinging, not sure if it tests loading speeds though? which is my main concern at the mo.

Fire away :)

Not as quick as I'd expected (I'm on previous-generation BT Infinity, 30-something Mb, wired connection in-house), maybe because it's loading full-size images? I'm not viewing full-screen and I wouldn't expect to, rather I'd expect the images to load scaled down so I didn't have to scroll to see the whole thing. Minor gripe, some very nice work you've got there :)

You're going for a minimal look right? I think that you don't need the Work and Contact buttons at the top of the right hand pane - the contact button doesn't look natural there, I would be looking for something like that on the "About" side. This would make the right hand pane cleaner.

(feel free to completely disagree!)

Looks nice, loads quickly. Horizonal-scrolling websites are rare enough to be jarring though.

Do you mean basically getting rid of the Work/Contact menu and just having contact down the left? Could work yeah, might try that out - will definitely make it more minimal!

Loads alright for me ...just a few seconds.

A darned sight quicker than Air mail can cover the 800 miles or so from leeds to the South of France! :p

All I gotta do now is avoid surfing the site........

I do not need more kit, I do not need more kit, I do not need more kit ..

There again! ..........:D:D

It definately tests load time, I am not sure it even has the ability to "ping" a site, depite its name "pingdom". My site normally shows a 250ms load time from a UK host, which is fairly reasonable but it would be a really BAD ping time - anything more than 1 to 2 ms would be worrying!

Ah, maybe I misunderstood what I was seeing on the homepage, will delve a little deeper into it :)

Yeah, that's exactly what I had in mind. Just seems a bit superfluous when I saw it.

I see what you mean, just removed the menu and added a small contact form down the side that's collapsible (don't want to actually type it out to save bot spam). Does look neater now, especially when scrolling through images.

65 seconds........rofl......and diabolical at the same time

scrolls sweet when its loaded up though :)

Scrolls after a couple of seconds but, overall, taking 31 secs before I see any images. (2.6Mb/s connection)

Ouch that's not great :/

Might be worth me reuploading the images at a smaller size for those on a slower internet connection.

I think you have to cater for the majority, I must by now be the only person left on Earth with pathetic internets.

Chuckles connection is twice mine so that kinda backs up the load times :)

Just installed win10 beta and it's just reasonable i.e. not fast or slow........ of course this info is of no use....just saying. ;)

Pingdom tests as 7 seconds from Netherlands (nearest test, 8.4 from NY)

As someone who builds massive infra powering big sites, anything over a second is too slow for something I personally am building, BUT, 2 seconds would be a good goal.
Your homepage weighs in at 9.1MB which is much too big for a website, especially the first page. Cut down the images :)

Your server isn't exactly too speedy either, 5s for image downloads. Maybe consider using a CDN? CloudFront maybe? Dirt cheap and worth every penny.

Feel free to PM if you need some further advice :)

Resurrecting this because I finally got a couple of hours to cutting down the image size tonight, would be interesting to see how it loads for you all now in comparison? Beforehand a lot of the images were >1mb, and some even over 2mb, which I didn't notice at the time of uploading. I re exported them all at 600kb max so hoping that it's made a big improvement, it appears to at my end but would be good to see what you all think.

Very quick for me, Tom. I tried as hard as I could to skim sideways to the furthest image, and it was up in less than two seconds! Did feel a slightly odd layout though, I'm used to scrolling down and this seemed to be all sideways.

Seems to load in a reasonable time Tom.

I've just tried it on my 3mb Sky connection and it loaded within 5-10 seconds so looks good to me. If you don't mind me asking, what Wordpress theme is that? It looks very minimal without being a pain to navigate.

Cheers
Steve

I got fed up with BT 1mb, so I'm on 4G wifi now, its about 20mb tonight and the page loaded in less than 5 seconds :)

Excellent, thanks all. Seems changing the images has made a massive difference.

I like my horizontal scrolling sites, I feel it displays work better for photography. Just personal preference really :)

It's called Fluxus.

Heres the link which has a link to a demo on it with all the different options, it's quite customisable

It even loads in an acceptable speed on my iPhone although it's not easy to navigate on a phone.
