New TV Advice Please

We're looking for a new TV for the study. Needs to be about 19/20"" LCD AND....
must come from John Lewis (got some vouchers).

Any advice on the best model under £300 appreciated or are they all about the same at this price point & size. I thought I would add we don't have SKY or Sat TV so will be run on terrestrial

It`s a great TV, obviously you`d have to look at them side by side to compare, but this one stood out for me as a quality screen.

I'd agree with that ^ from what is available, if you can't get the Samsung go for the Philips it has the next best specs Brightness the higher the better, Contrast ratio the higher the better, Screen resolution very important, should be at least 1440 x 900 at that size. Avoid makes like whoflungdung or any others you don't recognise.

Whoflungdung use the best of last years panels so it all depends on the cost :shrug:

Sony Bravia without a doubt, great colour & the best sound you get on a small LCD - it's a bit above your price I notice though

Another vote for a Samsung here, we got a 37" one for the living room a few months ago and love it to bits.

Thanks for the input - I've managed to do some more online research and the Humax seems to do well but I may just lean towards the Samsung & stick with a brand name + slightly better specs. The trouble is its almost impossible to compare in the shops because of the signal differences

I've got that Samsung model, albeit the US version, as a 2nd tv in the bedroom. I would seriously stay away from it. The contrast ratio is appalling, the colour is either on or off and the viewing angle is extremely shallow. What makes it worse is that it is being fed a good 1080i HD signal using a good quality HDMI cable and it's still an awful picture. I've used my set up discs to try and get a good picture but it's no use. Spend you money on something else

Samsung do large LCD panels well but this doesn't do their name justice.

Ask, they might be willing to plug the tv's you want to compare in side by side.
