I have a new toy!! :woot: A trip to Honk Kong and a fast walk through London customs means I now own my very own BIGMA!! My new baby the Sigma 50-500. Now I just need to get used to the thing to get some clear shots. It's not an easy lens to keep still handheld thats for sure. I have got it just in time for going to Silverstone tomoz for the race day of the Renault World Series event. Hopefully I will get some good pics from the beast

Out of interest is anyone else going to be at silverstone this weekend for the Renault World Series?

I fancy getting one of those lenses! Don't mind me asking how much in HK?

Very cool... think I would need to take up weight lifting to hold the thing, however, lol

It was about £500ish so you save a couple of hundred. I got them down on the price by about £50 too so you can get a bit off if your feeling brave against the Hong Kong shop people who hound you the second you walk in the shop. You can go into the more dodgy looking shops and they say £200 but you have to pay upfront and wait for them to get it from a 'warehouse'. All I said to that was ha yeh right. :suspect:

It'll be interesting to see how you get on with it, a monopod might be a good idea ;)

I got a good solid one at a night market for £10 again with being brave and getting £10 off by starting to walk away and the man saying ok ok $200

If anyone is going to Hong Kong to camera shop just be really careful as there are loads and loads of 'camera' shops where they give you stupidly cheap prices and then take the money and tell you they are out of stock or something. The shop I used is right outside the north side of Kownoon park. He had the biggest shop and let you play with the kit before buying. He was more expensive but these were believable prices and still a lot cheaper than UK.

Its a nice lens in really good light. I let mine go because I just couldn't get on with it. As nice as 500mm is, I needed better than 6.3! The trouble is, its such a good range! Nice heavy lump of glass on a lovely sunny day though.
Enjoy getting to know it. Be the boss!!

The range tempted me too, but as the sun rarely shines at Knockhill I need f/2.8.

Did you get a head for your monopod or are you mounting it directly to the lens?

nope no head at the moment but it just got a flat bit at the top with the screw in so can you get a head for that? I just got it cheap on the market so I could at lease have a mono pod.
