New toy - audiophiles this way

how many folk here have hifi and cinema setups?

I have both! Arcam/KEF stereo stuff and denon/mordaunt short home cinema. Neither need upgrading for a long time thankfully- I don't need 3D!

Edit: Blimey, I forgot my Thorens TD150 mk II turntable in there!

I used to collect records - I had every no.1 single(plus a load of others) going back to day 1 up in the loft at my parent's house. Then they had a house fire and I ended up with one large lump of back vinyl -with a couple of coloured spots where the likes of my first edition Police singles were :bang:
I can relate to that.

Way back when I was 15, my mother very kindly hoovered my bedroom for me while I was away for the weekend. She even picked up the five boxes of 7" singles from the floor & put then on the glass shelf. The glass shelf that was an accessory for the electric storage heaters we had... :'(

We spent a small fortune on VERY high class valve amplifiers, we built our own loudspeakers using the best ATC drivers we could get hold of and all driven from a Meridian CD player. We even toyed with a power 50Hz oscillator as the mains supply! When we upgraded from VHS to DVD we bought a Yamaha AV amp that was, annoyingly just as good as the valve setup. Looking back, we have wasted a fortune in time and money chasing rainbows. Ah, live and learn.

sort of got a home cinema setup going on

got a sony amp that whilst ok needs updating for proper HDMI passthrough, running celesian and morduant short speakers.

we put together a seperates system for my dad, hes only running a cheap cd seperate through a CA amp into a pair of M-S bookshelves but it sounds damn good, especially compared to the pioneer system he had previously

Lovin this thread... what are we like, lol.

I think I can calim to be one of the most nerdy in this respect ...II used to have this job ...tuning Linn Sondek turntables for first use  :geek::geek:

Still got my old Sondek turntable, Ekos arm and Karma Cartridge ... needles a bit worn but it still sounds %%^&*!! great. ..in a one off white Ash wood ..which is nice. :geek:

Apart for rack of albums Ive gotten a few thousands collection of collectable 50s singles too ... A D3's worth I like to think.

That's awful Graham :(

Yeah bummer Graham.

I couldn't help but think ...awfully cool piece of art though! ...shame on me.

:D Yeah, I can confirm thats is a small fortune.

I had my own earthed mains ...pretty cheap though, I just hammered an iron rod into the garden a few feet and weld the house earth to it.

I think my appreciation of alternate artist when through the roof those days ...everything!! was a fab experience to listen too.

Ahh! nothing like a bit of vinyl :D Congrats on your purchase and I hope you enjoy
Now if it is speakers you are after go pick yourself up a set of these Kef Muon`s  I listened to a demo of these at an audio show one year, to say they sounded awsome would be an understatement, but then at £70,000 a pair you would expect something kinda decent :D
