Hi all,

I've been considering taking the plunge into the world of medium format film for a while and Rob Hooley kindly lent me his RB67 the other week so I could get a feel for it. Even without seeing photos I loved the experience of using it so much I sold my Sigma 50-500 and found an RB on Ebay in great condition for a great price and just went for it! The first roll of film I ran through Rob's RB was PanF which he devved for me and the negs found their way to me tonight over a few beers (beer is generally involved somewhere whenever me and Rob meet up so it seemed only right!)

Here are some quick scans/edits from that first ever roll, there are no real subjects as such as it was just a test roll and all frames were metered from my 5Dmk2 as a way of easing me into it but I'm basically astounded at just how beautiful this format is. I'm pretty damned happy tonight! :D

Excellent - glad you like it! May you shoot many happy frames with your new pride and joy.

Good work, it's a great format.

You'll like the RB67....did you ever see the shot of my monster?

Great stuff! I really like the not-quite-substantial Hooley walking off down the path!

Thanks guys, can't wait to see how my first 2 rolls of Velvia look. Should have them back from Peak by the end of the week, I'll be rather happy if they're anywhere near looking alright!

Brian, she sure is a beast but an awesome one! :)

Welcome to the dark s(l)ide.....:D

Doesn't weigh much in a back pack ;) And I notice you have a good DSLR and think you made a sensible choice in adding film medium format as you can get better pop (3d effect) and usually better bokeh in comparison... at times when not using digital and you want something more special\different.
Also as it's a large neg all that colour (or B/W) "goodness" shows in the results.

Oh forgot sorry...the shots of the bottle and avenue of trees for me.

Well I think Leeds Town hall steps and one of them maybe Mr Foleys or Fagins?

great pics indeed.
meet for a beer sometime?

I'm not one to turn down a beer or four! Maybe see if any other Leeds locals are around and have a mini-photo wander/beer meet?

And yep, 1 is the town hall steps, 2 and 4 are in the Hedley Verity (Wetherspoons) and 3 is in Hyde Park. :)

Sounds like a major plan.
verity's i think thats the spoons we call tunespoons as they play music and have a dance floor.

amy more leeds piccie takers?

Tunespoons... I'm stealing that! Yeah it's a Lloyds so they play music but thankfully there are quiet out of the way hidey holes you can escape from the racket in!

Hooley, you up for it?

well i have my nikon F65 with a full B&W roll on the side that needs tlc.
Also my Ricoh Rangefinder that I have no idea how to work

I don't see why not :) Throw a few dates up and I'll see if I'm free

im up for that !

I do shifts so my days are a bit crazy

I should be free, what sort of time are you thinking?

Can I get in on this? :)

sorry chaps i cannot make this day due to a shift.
sad stuff.

Nick, if you happen to see this there's been a slight change of plan. Due to the rubbish weather we've delayed getting into Leeds until 3pm, we'll still have cameras and shoot if we can but 3's a more reasonable time to head straight to the pub if the weather leaves us with no other option!

We'll keep an eye on this thread when we're out and about, if you fancy joining us even if only for a beer then leave a message here and we'll sort a meeting point out. :)

Welcome to the dark s(l)ide....

Which reminds me to give a bit of advice.

Leave the darkslide in the bag, or even better, at home.

It is possible to fire the shutter with the darkslide only about 1/8" out (3mm for you youngsters).

I always left mine at home as you can still change the film without it.

I would only have the darkslide with me if I planned on swapping between film backs - although I can't recall ever doing this!

Steve.

Dang, totally forgot about this! Well, I will certainly be up for organising a meet up in the near future, if only to drink beer after work :) I now work in the centre so if any other Leodensians want to waffle about cameras just let me know

I'll be swapping lots between 2 film backs but if I only used one I'd probably view the dark side a bit like I do lens caps - something that generally gets in the way because I forget to take it off!

Nick, beer sounds good! Let's try maybe get something sorted in the next few weeks?
