New Top Gear tonight...

i watched it... well, i say "watched it" - it was more "put it on the tv then let it just run in the background while i did other stuff"...

Top Gear has gotten so boring. it's run it's course - it's not captivating any more if i'm honest.

so this time they found a driving road and drove along it in supercars - didn't they do that before ?
they parked in a "side street" which turned out to be in a ludicrous place - that's happened many times.
they've reversed a truck into a car - seen that before.

i'm bored of it. they should just knock it on the head if.
It could be worse - you could be watching Fifth Gear - now that is car crash tv

I'll still watch Top Gear i'm just saying it's getting repetitive, they've done the buying of unsuitable presents gag a few times now, it probably wouldn't be so bad if it weren't repeated endlessly on dave.

having said all that I happily paid my licence fee for 12 months after watching this.

And this was the best entrance made on TV ever, I get all eemotional when Spitfires are involved

they just need to pull one of these out of the bag during this series and they'll have won me over

I agree totally. :)

Definitely time to draw a line under the series and think of something else. That was really dull.

It was funny, but they've done it all and now struggle to find something new.

I also watched Clarkson's latest Xmas DVD last week.... *yawn*

The repeats of early series of Top Gear on Dave are still quite amusing, so its definitely that the newer material is poo and not just that I have bored of the idea of three grown men cocking around with cars.

Watched this last night and thought it was as good as ever......... looked lush in HD (in parts anyway) must not have had my fill of it yet as I'm still looking forward to next weeks :bonk:

BTW, some of you were talking about Fith Gear... did you know thats been axed?

They were talking about that at the Britcar Night Race thing at Brands the other week (because Vicky Butler-Henderson was driving there as she is unemployed!).

It was a poor show though - trying to be Top Gear and failing.

I think it's been boring and repetitive for about 5 years now!

However, there is little option out there at present unless we all fall under the spell of Get me out of here I'm a X factor Got Talent Dancing On Ice Contestant!

Which I have to say, I'd rather eat my own toe nails than sit and watch :(

I would agree that the format has got tired and they seem to do the same things over and over again. However, I still find it brilliantly entertaining and look forward to it more than pretty much anything else on TV :)

I beg your pardon?! Was this aired in HD!? I missed that if it was... every week on BBC HD?

I watched it in HD but looking through the planner they're not repeating it in HD which given the dross they do put on in HD and the endless previews I think is a disgrace.

It's on next sunday at 9pm in HD

The irony is that Fifth Gear was born out of the ashes of the original Top Gear and the new Top Gear format was ripped off from Fifth Gear....

Have you noticed that the BBC have also adopted the TG format for other shows like Watchdog? You've got to admire the Beeb for the way that they hit upon an idea and then Flog It to death :shake:

Only when that wee **** Jay Kay is on, showing off his latest purchase :naughty:

Whenever I need a laugh I look up the clip of JK picking on the smallest tog and threatening him for scratching his car

I thought tonight's was pretty funny.

It's the first one I've laughed at in a while.

For me Top Gear works best when they do the 'specials' - the Polar trip, the USA road trip, Vietnam, Africa etc etc were great entertainment. I think the blend of their personalities works really well and they could do so much more albeit 'around' a car theme.

I thought tonight's was pretty funny.

Clarkson needs new patter - talking about a car having "1000 torques" was funny the first time and maybe the second and third, but as he's been doing it every show for two years now.....

The funniest thing in the show for me though was the girl in blue strategically placed behind Clarkson - there was a second or two delayed reaction between the audience laughing at the jokes and her realising she should be doing likewise :D

BBC IPlayer seemd to have a major headache last night so I'm only just now (monday morning 0600) downloading last night's programme. I just hope it was more entertaining than last week's trip across Albania or wherever.

Yeah I noticed that too :D They do seem to position the more attractive ladies behind the presenters. I wonder how it goes as the audience arrive?

"You to the back, and you , and you....ooooh you at the front please, yup just there behind Clarkson :D"

"You to the back, and you , and you....ooooh you at the front please, yup just there behind Clarkson :D"

thats exactly what they do.
on TFI friday they used to go through the audience and grab the best looking girls and put them upstairs in the room where Ginger Nuts did the show from.

... We went to a recording of QI once and sat behind a couple who didn't laugh at anything! Of course they could have just had a row but I think they were just thick! :whistling:

... On the other hand, at the beginning of last night's TopGear, a big bloke in a black leather jacket had pushed himself into view behind Clarkson. It was a man named John McCambridge who was Tommy Byrne's mate and mentor as written up in "Crashed and Byrned, the story of the greatest racing driver you never saw" ... and McCambridge's adventures with cars and crashes are funnier than anything the whole TopGear crew can script - and all totally unpublishable!!

I think the blend of their personalities works really well and they could do so much more albeit 'around' a car theme.

Though I did think May looked a little wooden, like he didn't want to do it when they did the pretend slow motion stuff.

there was talk a bit back that on one of the new shoots James May had a bust up with Jezz and was talking about leaving the show - might have been that one.. but didn't Hamster look silly - we laughed and laughed.... cannot wait for the balloon and caravan stunt that is coming up soon

i thought today's show was quite good, the lancia bit was good, they could have expanded more on the 1980s lancias after the 037, and removed the largely pointless race against a morris 1300.

but the kit car stratos section was a bit of fun, although it didnt look nice to drive at all

I was dissapointed I have to say... why didn't they thrash that Lambo around their test track and give it to the Stig.... I waited and waited and then the credits rolled.... grrr!

I was asked to supply cars for that shoot several weeks ago. Politely declined, but passed on some owners who may be willing.

The kit Stratos was poorly setup.

Interesting info! Thanks for that. :) I know nothing about Lancias, other than that I really like them. A good friend of mine is really into them, and she's been completely engaged by the show tonight.
