As a newbie to both this forum and photography I would welcome help and advice.
I enjoy taking all photo's generally but friends children and my dogs get captured alot. I would like to know what package I would need to purchase to learn to edit out the backgrounds in some of the photo's.

Hi Sue and welcome:wave:

Get taking those photies before worrying about removing stuff from them.

There are a number of different editing tools out there some free and some really expensive, have a look through the threads at what others are using.:thumbs:
 
the ''background'' is still an integral part of the composition

so instead of deleting, use a wider aperture to throw the background OOF if you want to emphasize the subject

indoors [ kids, dogs] look at the background 'before' taking the shot to ensure door jambs etc dont appear to grow of the kids head ...:lol:

Hi Sue, Welcome, before splashing out buying software have a read on the forums,you will learn lots, there are plenty of good free software programs available :)

google Picasa 3 or GIMP :eek:

They are both free and quite good editing suites or if youre feeling flush, buy Photoshop CS 5 ( which I use and highly recommend)

Hi Sue and welcome to the forums.

My bit of advice for what it's worth. Take as much notice of the background as you do the subject. That way the chances of needing to do something with it in post processing is greatly reduced, and you end up with a more pleasing photo :thumbs:

Thanks for all your replies so far. I do try to get the dogs to pose where the background is ok but just in case I ever get a really special pic it would be great to know how to change background.
I have decided its harder getting a baby to pose near a decent background!
I will post a few pics taken so far soon.
