Hi all, I am new to this as I am desperately seeking advice! I am a keen but relatively new to photography but I have a strong interest in wildlife photography. I have been using the Fujifilm finepix hs20exr for about a year and would like to upgrade to a DSLR for a better zoom and a better picture quality. Can anyone recommend anything for wildlife?

Thanks! :D

Really need to say what your budget is.
All the camera manufacturers produce cameras and lenses that will suit wildlife photography.

Also, are you planning on sitting in a hide, stalking your subjects or just carrying your kit on a walk in the hope of getting near enough.

budget is probably £800 max. And i do all of those things so i dont think im any help :(

There are plenty possibilities, Elish and all the DSLR makers turn out good kit.
I live in the Nikon stable so my leaning is firmly in that direction. Folk with other makes will have a bias towards what they own.
Suggestion:-
Nikon D5100 with 18 -55mm lens and 55-300mm lens (the latter has vibration reduction - VR) therefore you can hand hold it at slower shutter speeds. You'll get that lot from Mifsuds (reliable dealer) for £777 - all new kit.

Wildlife - you can actually never have a telephoto that is "too long", but unless you want to lug a bazooka about with you then something more modest is in order. Just accept that all kit has limitations.

You may want to consider 2nd hand.

Whatever you do, go to a dealer and handle the cameras you may buy. How they feel in your hand does matter. You can always buy online after trying them out in a shop.

Hopefully others may jump in with some more suggestions.

Good luck.

Hi Elish, plenty of good cameras in your price range. I would say get yourself down to a camera shop and have a play with as many different types as you can, then you will know what feels comfortable for you. And welcome.

Hi

Welcome great hobby I am canon camp this is a small point but canon sensor use more magnification so you would get closer shot of your subject.

I would be tempted to buy a used body and lens put most of the budget in the lens.

Maybe say a 50d camera and a sigma 150 500mm lens with image stabilized function

Good luck

Allan
