New to the world of photography

Just another thing is that my mate last nite says that i have to get photoshop.. he says that everyone shops there pics before posting them e.g. changing the resolution..

Is that true? I'd have to look about photoshop if it is.

Edit - Too slow on the typing!

You don't need photoshop Creative Suite (CS3, Cs4 or even CS5)- it's several hundred pounds by itself. There are quite a few good alternatives ranging from free to expensive. Gimp is the one a lot of peole use as an alternative to photoshop. There are also the Photoshop Elements range for good value (look on amazon).

Photoshopping your pics is really used as a catch all term for computer based post-processing, not necessarily done with photoshop.

Is there much difference between a cannon 400D and a 450D?

I though the one i posted up was a 450D untill i read it again.. lol its a 400D

And conor out of interest what where the 2 other deals you seen in the classifieds section?

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0801/08012415canoneos450dchanges.asp has an overview of the differences.

I should declare my conflict of interest as one of the 400D's on the classifieds is mine! Having said that, you'll have to make your own decision on whether the updated spec of the 450D is useful to you; looking at the dpreview checklist I'd say the larger viewfinder, live view & spot metering would have been nice to have on the 400D.

Edit - I should add that the 400D is a great first time camera, I have been consistently happy & suprised by how good it was. If it wasn't for an unexpected bit of cash, I wouldn't have felt the need to change for some time. Some people say they are small, too small for some; but I'm 6 foot tall, average build and it fits me nicely. The 7D is better though :D

Not much of a difference. Mike has given you a good URL there to see what they are. Spot metering is really the only big difference, and quite frankly, I reckon you'd easily live without that. As you get better with the settings you'll probably start using Exp Comp or Manual mode a lot more so it will somewhat negate that difference.

The only other thing is a new sensor in the 450d, but I've read that the difference in the resulting photo isn't really that noticable.

Also, I've just noticed, the 2 deals I spotted were also for 400Ds. You seem to have found those 2 already (I spotted you post in one, and link the other one here already!)

Mike could you post up some pics taken with your 400D?

Yeah conor im taking both 400D camera's into consideration..lol

mmmmm.... mike i may be intouch..

Cool. Just so we stay on the right side of the law, I think any further dicsussion regarding the sale (if there is any) needs to be on my for sale thread .

Any help I can give on helping you chose a camera on the other hand I guess would be OK here, whether you choose a 400D or not.

Will any lens fit the 400D if i go for one? like will my mates lenses he has for his 450D fit?

As I understand it, any canon eos lens will fit. Certainly any lens that fits the 450D will fit the 400D and any lens you can buy new today will do too.

Older (much older) lenses with an FD mount won't fit.
