Hi all,

I am here to ask some very basic questions about studios. I know they are not probably operated all in the same way but I am living abroad in Europe and not having the language of the country well is not helping the situation. Plus people here are notorious for ignoring emails asking for more information.

So, I want to hire studio space. What happens? I mean, I choose a day and time and then I turn up and I am shown to a free room? I assume there are a few. What is in the room? Can I use any equipment there for free? What about other photographers being around and poking their noses in. I am thinking about recording studios. My background is in music and have had bad experiences of other 'artists' hanging around.

Thanks for your help, as always. :)

Hi, a good studio will include in the cost the use of lighting, props etc. There may be a charge if using paper backgrounds for damage, but this should be minimal. You should be left alone and the only person who may poke their nose in will be the owner who will offer advice and help with sets etc. If you let the owner know what you're looking to shoot he will probably set it up for you so it's ready on your arrival.
