Hi all,
Just thought I would introduce myself. I am Jane and I live in a place called Appleby in Cumbria, or if your a true local Appleby in westmorland. I live here with my hubby and 2 dogs. I live within a 20min drive of the lake district and it's only taken me 33 yrs to actually appreciate how stunning this place is. I decided I needed a hobby and when santa bought me a panasonic Lumix for x-mas I decided it would be photography. ( so I have already put my santa letter in asking for a better camera this year.)
Anyway due to a various reasons not been able to do much but hoping now things have settled a bit I can get my teeth into it. The pictures I have hopefully included are the only two proper attempts I have had so would love some feedback.
Thanks Jane

Hello and welcome to TP.
You are lucky to live so close to such a beautiful area.
Regarding your pics, you have captured some really nice reflections. I particulary like the B&W one, but think if you could crop some of the top part off, as there is not much happening in the sky, it would be much stronger.

hi
#1 for me ... ...almost feel the cold

best to number the shots ... easier for comments to refer to
a carriage return would separate the image too

watch those horizons - try for "level"

Yes, No2 has a very obvious sloping lake - ideal for water skiing !

Otherwise, nicely seen.

Thanks for that guys......Maybe I will do better now I have a tripod with a level thing on it, reckon I must be cockeyed all my pictures are like that.

jane

do you have any "image editing software" as most will have a "straightening tool"

Picassa 3 is free

Hi John,
Yes I do I have Picassa and photoshop still trying to get my head round the whole thing. But hey ho I will get round it eventually. Scary thing is it looked straight to me !!!

I get crooked horizons as well, especially sea etc. I'm so busy thinking of all the other settings I don't notice I have a slight tilt on horizon. :bonk:

Picasa has a really easy straightening tool - you just move slider whichever direction you need. Of course its best to shoot it straight in the first place, but its good to know its easy to correct or check.

What a beautiful location you have so close! I'm sure you'll enjoy many other trips there catching it at different times of the day and seasons.
