Hi all

I’m completely new to photography and welcome any advice. :)

I’m looking to buy as my first camera the Nikon D3200.

Should I purchase just the body, or get it with the 18-55mm lens? (If I buy the lenses below I guess I don’t need the included lens?)

I’m also looking to buy the following lenses:

55-200MM F/4-5.6 AF-S VR DX
AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Lens

Would you recommend anything different? Also as a first time buyer, would you recommend any essential buys?

Thanks – Mark

Memory cards would help I think as well as spare batteries. As regards lenses it depends on how much you want to spend and what type of photography your interested in.

Oh forgot to say welcome to the forums

That's pretty much the gear i have, apart from mine being the D3100 and I find it a good all around set up!

Believe me it is, don't forget to think about an editing program as well, I would recommend Adobe Elements 11

£43 is what it is sell for, trial download is on the adobe site

Not too hard to get your head around and at the moment going cheaper than normal retail price. Premier is for video editing

Brilliant - thank you! Someone also suggested to me Adobe Lightroom. Any good?

Great to have that verification that I'm heading in the right direction! Thanks

I bought all that when i was just starting too. All the motorsport pics on my Flickr are taken with the 55-200, but with also having the 35mm i find i hardly ever use the kit lens.

Whenever anyone asks advice on camera gear its very important to tell us what sort of photogrpahy your intereested in.. different cameras and diiferent lens lend themsleves better to different types of photography..

There isnt a lens that does everyhting or we would all just own the one lens :)

Well I guess this answer the question about getting the camera with the kit lens - I guess I should just get the body and the 2 lens I listed.

I'm not really sure yet - want to give everything a try really, portraits, landscapes, some street photography also - I'm not really interested in nature photography.

Some great advice so far, really starting to finalise what I need to get :D
