Hi Guys,

I've looking to get into photography for a while on and off but never really got around to it. After being sent some professional shots of my car from a magazine shoot that happened in January (and having to go through the process of converting RAW images into Jpeg) the other day that has pushed me into it.

Having a few friends who are already into photography I know a little and the basics. I know the lens is the most important bit of kit you need and where the money needs investing but I have to get a body first and tbh i'm confused by it all.

The shots I recieved from the magazine were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mk3, having looked that camera up the price of the body alone almost made me faint

I'd be greatful of any recommendations, I realise this question must be asked everyday.

I've been looking at the Canon 10D, but after reading the forum a bit I get the impression this is old stuff. Ideally i'd want something with a high FPS for action shots (Snowboarding, Mountain biking etc) and I really do have Canon blinkers on (don't ask me why).

So far looked at the 20D, 30D and the 400D, they all seem to be hovering around the sort of price bracket i'm looking at for an entry level camera.

Sorry for rambling and thanks in advance for your help! :)

Howdy Gordie and welcome to the forums :)

as Joe says you might get more response is then "Camera, lenses....." forum (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14) as not everyone checks the welcome part all the time :)

If you can get a good second hand 30D then you cant go far wrong! Its a great camera, if you want new you are looking at the 40D, which is the 30D plus some more fun and games , and higher fps which might help you :) There is also the 450D which is out soon (or might be out now) which has similar specs to the 40D apart from it has slower fps. But yeah make a post in the other secion and give a rough budget and if you want second hand or whatever and I am sure someone with more experience then me will be able to help

Hi and welcome

Hello and welcome Gordie! :)

Welcome - I'll move this to the appropriate forum as suggested. :)

Thanks guys...Yes I should have posted in this forum - sorry.

I'd be looking to spend around £400-£500 for a 2nd hand camera, hopefully just with a lens of some desciption so I can use it and save up for more.

At that sort of price I would be looking at a 30D body only or perhaps with an 18-55 at the top end.

Having looked at the 450D i'm not convinced.

As a rough guide, the further up the camera tree you go, the more FPS you'll get.

You're right - the lens is where it's at, and to start, any body will do what you require it to - don't be put off by a 350D/400D to get you started. Looked after, these bodies will always be resellable, if and when you want to upgrade....
