I everyone this is my first post.

Just got my new d90 and have been reading everywhere about which lens to purchase in a few months I already have a 50mm g 1.8 and a nikon standard 18-105

I was thinking about a sigma 24 - 135 I want a reasonable zoom which is wide

Or do I go down the 17 70 route?

Defo don't want a macro lens

I can't limit my choice of photos I just snap everything so I think I'm after a bit of an all rounder that doesn't blow the £200 mark.

Thanks guys

you've already got 18-105 covered, so another zoom in that range would be a waste of your money. You've got a low light prime covered in the 50. About the only thing left for me would be the 55-200 or 55-300 to give you some length. You can get the -200 for that for sure.

Alternatively, pick up a flash instead of another lens.

Thanks,
Rick

I agree with Rick.

Use what you have for now and see if you really need another lens. If you were to get another zoom lens I would go for a 55-200mm second which will be well with in your budget.

The other option is to save up and get a Nikon 70-300mm or a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 second hand.

Tend to agree actually really do need a flash. I'm going to go up to langset at weekend and take some shots see if I really need a long zoom.

I've also been contemplating swapping the 18-105 for a tamron 18-55 which is 2.8 Continuous?

Edit that was 17 not 18

I have a D90, and if I was thinking of lenses for it now I'd look at the 35mm f1.8, 16-85mm VR, and 70-300mm VR. The 17-70mm is a fine lens. However, I'd spend a lot of time with the 35mm on your camera, take lots of photos, experiment, and learn. You probably don't need more lenses at the moment, but in time will come to know what suits you best.

Edit, as a travel lens, the 18-200mm is excellent. I sold mine, but do miss it.

That's not far from my setup. I have the 35, 18-55, 55-200, and 300/4. I considered the 70-300, but realized that I would have only used it long (since I have the 55-200) so went straight to the primes. The 16-85 would be great, but I don't have the impetus to upgrade that one. I'll go 80-200 first.

Thanks,
Rick

16-85 looks a nice lens Andy, although I still am a big fan of the Tam 17-55 2.8!!!! :)

You've got most things covered, why not use you camera and lens combo, get familiar with the set-up first. After a while you'll find that you should find that you NEED to acquire a new lens to accommodate your shooting style/practices rather than actually just WANTING to buy a new lens.
