Hi There everyone,

I have been away from photography for a while but due to a recent job change have started shooting product photography and have been bitten by the bug again.

I have an eos 30D (indoors use only) and am looking to step up to FF - but am going round in circles.

I wish to shoot killer landscapes with uber-wide lenses, sunsets and some interesting people shots (85mm lens stuff) -

Fast sports action and telephoto are NOT a priority, but artsy landscapes / scenery / buildings etc definitely ARE my preferences.

So what to buy - eos 5d mkI or II / eos 1ds (I or II) - lots of discussions but I want to enlarge to say for printing on canvases, so what body to go for ?

Am I way off the mark - do I need to get a loan for a more recent body with bigger sensor resolution or can I just invest the coin in "L" glass with the older bodies for canvas printing ? - any advice and help greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Jeremy.

Reading between the lines your priority appears to be getting the sharpest images possible. Because of this you are torn between older 1ds bodies and more recent 5d bodies or getting really good L glass. All fair choices and a relevant question, however (and i could be wrong here) isnt it pointless spending a fortune getting super sharp images only to print them on canvas? Any canvas prints i have seen couldmt possibly convey the sharpness of the original image because of the matt finish and non smooth finish which would surely negate your expense.

Hi Gazamonk,

Many thanks for the reply and I agree with your surmisation of canvases etc

Having gone to bed at 2am this morning armed with some more research, I see the results obtained with earlier 1ds & 5d bodies with the better glass is really quite outstanding, and perfectly acceptable for canvases.

Many thanks for the comments.

Jeremy
