Hi Dan

If that is all you want to do with it then the cheaper end of the DSLR market would be best try a Fuji Finepix and buy a macro kit for it would be my advice, you should be able to achive this for less than £150 ish

Good luck

my advice as well...get some macro experience with a handleable and friendly piece of kit
if you really need to move up..££££ remember...then thats the time to choose

i get happy results from my pos:|

cheers guys, still looking at models at the mo. are add on lenses universal fitting ?

Right i think i am going to go with the finepix s1500. i have read quite a few reviews and this seems to be a good starting camera with regards to learning controls etc.also says the macro setting is pretty good, just need to know if i can get an additional macro lens with this ? and would i need it ? cheers guys.

The S1500 is a 'bridge' camera rather than a DSLR and has a fixed zoom lens.

In other words you can't change lenses only zoom in or out.

I'd think you'd be better off with a cheap or 2nd hand DSLR.

im just wondering whether i actually need to go for a dslr just yet though, thinking a bridge may be a better option as im an absolute begginer.

i suggest you buy a used DSLR at the start !!
the Nikon D40 is an excellent "starter" and the lens that comes with it [called the "kit" lens] is an 18-55mm which actually focuses quite close

If you want "macro" shots then a true macro lens can be expensive

a cheap alternative [ to start with] is a set of *screw-in macro filters*

these screw into the end of the kit lens
the Nikon kit lens has a 52mm diameter thread so you buy 52mm filters
I got a set of eBay new £10 from "here"
..

right i will go for a 2nd hand dslr then, been doing some reading and it seems like a bridge might just be a waste of time.going to go to the specialist camera shop in brighton tomorow to get a feel for the d40.thanks for your help guys.

I'm only suggesting a Nikon D40 cos I am familiar with it
there a good Canon entry levels too !
but a set of screw-in macro filters will work whatever you buy - just match the filter thread size !

been kicking around eBay for a few days looking for a D90 and..

there's a Business Seller called "buyista" who has a number of Nikon D40 body for bidding - they would be a good start - as i have !

then pick up a Nikon AF-S DX lens
"CameraWorld" is doing a 18-55 AF-S DX VR [vibration reduction] for £99+pp
or hunt for a secondhand one...

good luck
