New test web site

To start with much better than before. The homepage is better and more up to date. However, i do find your logo quite dated and doesnt fit in with the page. Obviously its a test site so will not comment on the content so much. Personally it doesnt grab me though.
 
"for all your photography needs" - herrumph - I'd like some rolls of Agfapan, a couple of CF cards and a look at the new Nikon please.........:D

Chaz, each time there are things that get better, but what is it with Grey?

Why do you insist on using grey for your color scheme? I tried using a grey/black theme once and I just found it to be kind of nasty. It's heavy and dull. Is there a reason you are always sticking to grey?

Also, the galleries - I really dont like that thumbnails follow the cursor arround, its like there is a little web bug trying to play hide and seek with my mouse, really distracting.

as I said its in test and changing all the time as for the galleys it going to change when I get it looking right.

not sure but it might have been as we are working on it at time you loaded the page will check it out

Quite impressed what you and Darren have achieved in only a couple of days given the learning curve associated with starting to use Wordpress. For what it's worth I quite like a grey theme, but presumably it's easily changed to a lighter shade or other colour?

On the Bio page, I noticed the font appears larger and slightly pixelated for both your bio and contact information compared to other pages. (I am using Google Chrome on a Windows XP machine)

Good improvement over your old website. :thumbs:

A huge improvement over the old site.

Minor point but the forward slash before all the headings looks a little bit odd.

As everyone else has said - huge improvement.
The logo wants a fresh look, I know all your potential customers won't have seen the old site, but that logo gave me flashbacks and I might need sedating before I can sleep:D.

We all like a bit of self promotion but 'I can provide some adequate images of your wedding' is closer to the truth than 'iconic'. To be honest I struggle to think of any iconic wedding images and I'm a wedding photographer nerd:geek: (whilst writing this I thought of 1)

As others have said, the text has to be selling the benefits of your services to your target audience.

Any comment on what wordpress photo albums?
 
I can't help with that I use pro photo and the galleries are inbuilt. Flash, light box or standard.

ok Flash is out as iPad's will not show then so I been told How bad is that :) my last web had flash so moved away.

A total aside but a decent flash slideshow will show an alternative to non flash enabled devices. And for new pro photo users it's just HTML5 for all devices.
 
Some of you might remember the previous thread from Chaz. Having seen it I set up a blank site for him on my server and installed a number of bits and pieces and showed him how to use it. It's a steep learning curve but he's only really a week or so into learning wordpress so my personal view is that it is coming along nicely.

Things like colours can be adjusted very quickly and easily later and the content can be sorted too. The photo manager that it is using is the one I found for our orchestra so it was ideal for that but not necessarily for a photographer.

What would be ideal, I think, is if anybody lets Chas know about decent wordpress photo management updates and other ideas for improvement. The logo, for example, just came straight from the old site and is just dropped in place.
 
Looking much better, Chaz. I would echo other comments about logo etc. I found the photo gallery unusable. Mousing over an image, a similar thumbnail would appear randomly and just annoyed me. When I did get to the slide show, the previous image (when a landscape shape) would still be there when the next (portrait shape) image appeared. Wow slider is what I've used, you might want to check it out.

Only costs a tiddly amount and you can lose the Wowslider branding.

When you do go live, don't have 'under construction' anywhere. If not ready, leave it out.

Not at all keen on the blue font for the galleries, much too busy.
