New [stolen] image search tool from Google

You got in there quick! Unless you're in the Apple Developer Program...

It was released last night ;)

I haven't been able to find any of the images from my Flickr, even though I know most of them are being used elsewhere.

I take it this doesn't work with flickr images?

it does.. open 2 tabs, one the google image search and the other your flickr set.. click your flickr image and drag to the google tag :)

Just tried it with one of my flickr pics of an escalator, and it just seems to come up with random matches.

How long should it search for?

Been searching for my shot in Durham as it had the most hits on Photobucket.

seconds for me but it didnt work for me even though i know images are being used elsewhere it did not show them. Didn't even show some of them as being from flickr when i dragged from flickr...

Give us the full details of the version so we can see if it's isolated to particular version of Vista or your web browser...

Example, it appears fine for me running:
Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP2
Google Chrome v12 / Internet Explorer v9 / Firefox v4

Forgive me if this is a dumb question but how do I find this out??

It's still searching now

Just don't wanna press the cancel button

5 mins more, then that's it!

One more stupid question, do I email or post it. The address was American (google maps shows residential), so I am inclined to email.

If I hear back great if not I doubt it's worth pushing.

Theres a plugin for Google Chrome were you just right click on your image , then select 'search google with this image'

Its really quick. If you input some keywords with your search it tends to bring up more pictures its found

Not dumb at all!
Assuming you're on a Windows PC, you'll want to go to the start menu and right click on My Computer. Hit Properties and you'll see system info pop up, one part will say something like "Windows Vista Home Premium" or whatever.
Secondly, open your browser (be it Chrome, Firefox, IE, etc) and find the part usually under Help then choose About. That gives you the version of the browser :)
Any questions again, just shout!

OK, just opened Chrome. Do I find my image on my drive or photobucket before right click?

What's the plugin called?

This is fun, I also look at the visually similar results

I pasted this image in the search (a frame from my DV cam)

A visualy similar result came out with this

It thinks I look like a Barbie doll

Anyone else on Mac struggling to get this to work? I've updated firefox to the newest edition with no success. Safari is V3.2.1 and OS X is 10.5.5. I can't get it to update though :(

Im on a mac with 10.6.8 (so upto date as of today) and using google chrome which works just fine. Might be worth trying chrome?

I've had most success dragging and dropping an actual file from the relevant folder within My Pictures, not stuff that's already hosted on flickr/photobucket

I suspect your version of Safari is too old.

BTW, you should really update to 10.5.8. You won't be able to run Safari v5.x but you'll be able to run v4.0.2 at least and there will be some security and other improvements that you're missing out on.

As mentioned in another reply download Chrome. I've been finding it much nipper than Safari (i.e. no beach balls).

OK, done that, do you need to then press search?

Mick

As soon as I 'drop' the photo in the search bar, it automatically starts uploading it then displays search results a few seconds later. You may need to click search, give it a try

It has not found any of my images even when I know for a fact they are other sites (because they have asked me) In fact it can't even find my photos on my site.

I guess I'm doing something wrong.

have never found any of mine that are from legit sales either!

I found 1 of my flickr thumbnails being used in a Brazilian website about London, linking back to flickr. No point contesting that one I think!

Actually, thats an interesting point - some of the ones I searched for are in use in various places (legit) and it didn't find those.

The only place it seems to find mine, is on here!

Well, it wont work for me, keeps timing out while uploading my image.
I wont be surprised, though, if its my router at fault

Handy device, but I look forward to the day that one of mine is used... :p

Maybe ;)

But would be nice to have one, even on a carp site. Just wanne feel like somebody likes my work :'(

Mick

I don't know if this will make you feel happier. My most copied shot is also my crappiest shot from ps. The subject matter is a slightly different story.

OP, thanks for posting about this. I've had a flickr photo with views disproportionately higher than any of my other photos and this new tool has helped me figure out why. GRRR! Some dolt has done a "share pic" thing to it and it's posted on his blog. Good news - he's using Blogger; bad news - I filled out a dcma form and sent it in to Google.

I've just found one of my photo's on a Japanese blog site.
Looks like it has been lifted from my flickr site but breaches the creative commons license by not attributing the source of the image. All exif has been stripped out too.

Unfortunately I can't find a way to contact even when the page is translated.
Here's the page if any of you guys can figure out a way

Bottom of the left hand column is a contact form.

If you want I can translate a quick reply to send to him up if you type it out in English and PM it to me. My Japanese is pretty good, so it should be quite easy to do so. (Make sure you let me know which image is the one too)
