New Sony Ad

I'd just assumed it was all computer graphics

did wonder if it was real or not, at the end of the ad the ground and trees look real so it got me wondering. Not as good as the balls ad though, that was quality

Totally brilliant IMO.. Nothing has ever been made like this before and it certainly makes you watch and take notice..:)

Isnt that what advertisements are all about..

I love it and I think it's better than the balls. Very creative and I would have loved to have been there.

If it had all been computer graphics i would agree it wasnt a patch on the balls ad, but seeing that how it was made video ! absolutely superb and would definitely make you remember who the ad was for ! :)

I think they're starting to set a precedent now.

When I heard about the ad and saw the colours, I thought "It's real...It's a Sony Bravia ad", on the back of the coloured balls.

Another very impressive ad, and what I particularly like about it, was the noise at the end of the 'paint rain'. Gave it that really authentice air about it :

The Tango parody was brilliant. Wonder if someone like B&Q will be brave enough to do a similar take on the new ad?

Creatively I think "Paint" is fantastic, it is far more inventive than "Balls", but I feel it is just lacking something in intensity, like it is missing something. Maybe the music needed to be a bit harder.

Still happy with my Panasonic TV though!

Michael.

lol. Always makes me wonder what the meeting went like between the execs and the creative/advertising team went.....

"Look, we've got a really great idea for an advert, you're gonna love it......"

"go on....."

"Weeeeeellllll, we're gonna go to san fransisco and roll like a million bouncy balls down a big hill and get some hippy with a guitar to do the soundtrack"

"see, I told you you'ld love it! And for an encore, we're gonna go to a sink estate and blow up loads of paint!"

"mumble, mumble"

"sorry, what was that? I thought heard something about broken windows and childish"

I hate sony, but love the ads!

Love both ads. Everyone in the office was convinced Paint was a CGI effort til I pointed out the paint splshes on the railings at the end were fer too realistic - even the best CGI has a 'plastic' feel to it, no matter how well done.

Thats blasphemy! Sony are quality! :bonk:

Apparently, a lot of Sony stuff is just re-badged from other manufacturers, with a mild bit of restyling... It's the marketing team that make people think they're so good...

(just like Microsoft buy some software packages 'in' and rebadge them too)

I think thats the case for a lot of stuff. I saw a programme on LG and their LCD/Plasmas TV's and they said there that they make nearly all the top manufacturers TV, and they are just re-branded. They wouldnt say which brands they made, but it would be interesting to know!

All I know is my Sony Portable is 15 years old and still going strong, and two video cameras (DSR 300 and TRV350k, I think) are both the best built bits of electronics ever! I have never had anything sony that was badly made. The only thing that ever let me down was a mobile phone, but that was the software that kept making it crash :(

anyway......

Thats your problem. They are old.

Sony has gone considerably downhill in the last few years. They no longer care about their users.

Recently, sony put a gaming company out of business for perfectly legally selling PSP's purchased in Hong Kong to people in europe (the PSP didn't come out until 9 months after it did in HK here).

Last year, sony included what was essentially a virus that took over your computer and damaged the operating system so much it couldn't be removed, and claimed it was in the name of copyright protection.

Over the last six months or so, bad manufacturing has caused millions of Sony batteries to be recalled (and I mean millions - google it). If you don't send your battery in for the recall, it has a rather alarming habit of blowing up.

They screwed over PSP customers by advertising the ability to play media on UMD disks as a major plus, and then abandoning the format.

They screw over customers time and time again, and people still buy sony.

And, they charge ridiculous prices for stuff that is no better than anything else on the market, and do it all by using their history of a good name...

Not exactly. They sued them for "infringing intellectual property rights" which the company, Lik-Sang, didnt contest. The company then went on to reveal that various Sony people had used them for purchases (which makes it seem like the company was some how ok'ed) Sony claim they were purchased for "investigational purposes" which sounds a little odd, but then wouldnt you purchase some if you were Sony to see what it was they were actually selling. Lik-Sang then go onto name the people that purchased them, which must have been againt many data protection rules - which doesn't suggest good management/business ethics to me. I am not saying Sony are blameless but there is definatly two sides to this story!

Last year, sony included what was essentially a virus that took over your computer and damaged the operating system so much it couldn't be removed, and claimed it was in the name of copyright protection.

From what I have seen, this anti-piracy software (which does auto instal) didn't cause any damage, but because of its cloaking has been targeted by hackers, and at least 3 trojans have used its security weakness. So again two sides - though having bloody Spyware from a music CD is damn stupid! (remember this is Sony BMG, so it is not the electrical side)

Over the last six months or so, bad manufacturing has caused millions of Sony batteries to be recalled (and I mean millions - google it). If you don't send your battery in for the recall, it has a rather alarming habit of blowing up.

Sony did claim on one report I saw that it was the connectivity to laptops etc that companies were using that was causing these problems, that does sound like a poor excuse though! There are sooo many stories out there I can't find any facts but I don't think its actually that many (if any) that have actually blown up...I think the problem is mainly with overheating and fires during charging. This all sounds really bad. But Sony are not trying to shy away from this, they have issued the recalls and it is going to cost them millions....I would be more worried if they had just played it down and said it was the laptop manufacturers faults.

They screwed over PSP customers by advertising the ability to play media on UMD disks as a major plus, and then abandoning the format.

Again there is a second side to this! The media (mainly movies) that were available in UMD format were priced the same as DVD's (IE full res versions of the same thing) Sony didnt set these prices or, directly, make these movies. It is the movie industry and studios that have helped kill off this format. Granted Sony could try and incorporate other uses for the format, but saying the the abandoned the format is a bit harsh! they still use it for games etc!

They screw over customers time and time again, and people still buy sony.

I will still buy them! You have to remember that Sony is HUGE and therefore it is going to have a few problems, and because of who they are they are going to get publicity! I still think they are the best electronics manufacturer out there....so much so that I spent forever replying to this ;) )

And, they charge ridiculous prices for stuff that is no better than anything else on the market, and do it all by using their history of a good name...

Yup they are pricey, and I do think some of that cost is just for the name, but I for one am willing to pay that in the long run.

Now I need to rest my wrists!!! :p

EDIT: Now thats a 100th post! :) (P.S I quite like debating, sorry!)

LG-Philips make the screens for Apple-Mac computers amongst others. You know the really nice widescreen Apple displays? LG-Philips.
About 20% cheaper from them direct.

... back to the new ad :nono: - wouldn't be any good without the music they chose IMHO - classic Rossini :geek:
Paul ;)

cracking advert.

yeah sony make mistakes but the odd product is worth it. the psp is the finest piece of timewasting toy i have ever owned!
