Hi
this is not only my first ever post but I'm also a recent convert to photography. I've got a second hand 400d with a tamron 17-50 2.8 lens. I'm thinking of changing for the new Sigma 18-125 ds os when it comes out supposedly later this month. would this be a good general walk about lens? or am I better getting a second lens to give greater range. I prefer to travel light if possible and the os would be usefull for hand held.

Hi Harvey and welcome to TP.

I have the Sigma 18-200 (non-OS) as my walkabout lens and I like it. It's not too strong optically at the longer lengths, but below about 150mm it's not bad at all, and it's capable of producing some great images.

If the 18-125 is of a similar quality then it will be fine, and of course the OS will be a bonus for shooting in poor light. But that might be a big "if" - it would be interesting to hear from people who have experience of both lenses.
