Time will tell whether she is a professional who can set her personal lifestyle choices aside.

Definitely some interesting choices for his shadow cabinet.
 
This is like having a climate change denier as environment minister, or a homeopathy advocate as health minister, or a News International shill deciding on their takeover bid or....

Bad appointments are nothing new.
 
At the end of the day, it'll make no odds as they'll not be in power anyhow so it's all a bit academic really.

Except that those are all examples of people wilfully ignoring science to promote their own point of view.

If the whole country switched to a vegan diet it would be very bad news for farmers indeed. But there's a massive amount of evidence that the health of the population would rise exponentially. It would be nice to see government policy heading in this direction.

But like @BRASH says, there's no need to worry - no chance the current lineup will get elected. My guess is the long term plan is to throw the next election and then bring back whichever Miliband hasn't had a go yet and return to "New Labour" values.

Hmm skewing the stats, the heath of the nation would also rise, with a healthy mixed diet too.
 
its been a bit of a weird few days...

....and now Arnie is going to take over on Celebrity Apprentice for Trump...which is itself weird as Trump is concentrating on his presidential bid...
 
Some articles suggest he's 600 million in debt, others say he would have more money now if he just left his inheritants in the bank to gain interest. He's is a deluded fool.

But then I was reading this morning about a plan to save thousands of lives by changing the size of a cottage pie so who knows?

Leaving aside that Veganism is bonkers, it would also be the death knell for film photography since I believe that no film proces or camera has been certified for Vegan use. I think there was a digital camera that was approved by Vegans though I don't understand how it could be since I strongly doubt that any cameras are manufactured by herbivores these days

The bonkers bit is definitely true and I think the rest is. The main problem for Vegans is the gelatin in film and paper and the Vegan certified digital camera was definitely a news story years ago but of course that doesn't mean it wa true.
The least bonkers Vegans IMNSHO are the Jains who won't even eat root vegetables because they cannot be harvested without killing worms etc though what they against aphids which makes it OK to eat them I have no idea.

Apologies. It was a polite way of saying that the second part of your post was total b*****ks.

The first part (about the gelatine) is of course true. On most definitions, film isn't vegan. But then it's not vegetarian either. I lose track of religious groups but I think there's a very good argument that it isn't either halal or kosher. The vegan society was certainly trying to persuade everybody to go digital in the early 90s - though they did admit that digital choices at the time were "limited".

It's one of those inconvenient facts that lots of people learn and then ignore. Like red velvet cupcakes being largely made of crushed beetles, mobile phones are an environmental catastrophe and coffee is radioactive.

Most things that were alive at some point are mildly radioactive. I remember reading once that if they weren't naturally occurring, Brazil Nuts would be classed as intermediate level radioactive waste, which would mean they would need to be encased in steel and stored at Sellafield.

I just went to look this up and found that my Granite worktops are even more radioactive than Brazil nuts :(

Unfortunately not - in fact quite the opposite, if I leave a cup of coffee on there, in 10 minutes it's cold (comes in handy when in a rush).

They also have a huge amount of selenium in them. Eating 5 nuts exceeds your recommended tolerable allowance of selenium.

Did I read somewhere awhile back that the shells are poisonous, that's why you can only buy pre-shelled Brazil nuts now?
Half the fun was trying to crack them open without spilling the contents half way around the world :(

Don't know about that, but you can make arsenic cyanide from almond skins.

Google says there's a very small chance the shell can contain the kind of toxins that may give you cancer. Because of that, our EU passed a law saying you had to test every single batch of whole brazil nuts that you import into Greater Europe. So nobody does that any more - they just shell them.

You cant make Arsenic, it is a naturally occurring mineral which is present in just about every living organism, including human beings:)
There are higher concentrates in a lot of our everyday foodstuffs and some say it is essential in our diet, though I don't know the science behind that??

I meant cyanide but my brain has turned to mush due to a monotonous repetitive task at work.

Fortunately, not in the almonds you can buy in shops. Bitter almonds contain cyanide. The ones sold in shops even if they taste bitter are sweet almonds - they come from a different tree.

You can buy bitter almonds in the shops, at least in certain countries where they are traditionally used in baking. Normally small packets to prevent accidental poisoning, but a savvy poisoner could visit multiple shops. I also understand that extracting a higher-concentration liquid from the almonds can be achieved using basic kitchen apparatus... ;) All you need is a hollow-tipped umbrella and you're good to go.
Sweet almonds contain cyanide too, just not as much. Eating 20kg would kill you (well, 50% of people). Again, you could probably concentrate it, but probably not enough to poison someone unwittingly, unless they really like frangipane.
 
I never understand why vegetarians like animals so much, but eat all of their food :)

not to mention the effect on landscape photography (and rather more pressingly ecosystem and landscape) ... without livestock grazing for conservation and land management the british landscape will be very different - with intensive monocultures in any land that can be ploughed and any land that can't abandoned (or covered in solar panels).. this will also impact on the rural economy with vastly raised unemployment in rural areas both from farming and tourism.

The problem with radical veganism is the intolerance (as with any other radical or extremist) - I have no problem with them having any ethical or religious belief, but i have a major issue with them using positions of power to force me to live according to their beliefs

Also widespread veganism would lead to the mass slaughter of livestock as farmers cannot afford to keep a zoo
