Just received a text telling me that my parcel is being held at a depot, and to visit www.track-myparcel.com and enter my 'claim number' to arrange delivery.

Firstly - I'm not expecting a parcel.

I had a look at the website - it's pretty basic - however it does link a few of the big courier names from one of the pages, and looking at the bottom of the webpage shows copyright of 2010 giving the impression it's been around a while..

I've checked the Whois report, and was registered just a few days ago via godaddy.com - so it's certainly not been around since 2010 that's for sure..

By now I'm confident it's a scam - so I enter my 'claim number' - and up comes my mobile number and a message along the lines of they found a parcel that had my number on it but nothing else.. Put my details in to arrange a delivery...

So I entered fake details, and sure enough the next page took me to a link that said I owed £20.00 on it, and that this would need to be paid before I can get the parcel delivered.

Scam through and through.

Internet searches for 'track-myparcel.com' don't show anything negative yet - however having only been registered a few days, this is a startup scam, so hopefully by popping this thread here, it'll populate in google sometime and warn others off.

If you receive a text from www.track-myparcel.com - I'd ignore it :) No parcel will ever arrive.

Good spot!...sadly a few will get caught and when the 20 odd quid payment is made they'll no doubt have the card details so will be taking a lot more.....scum

How many parcels get sent out with no address, just a phone number?

I can't see this scam getting very far.

They say it's 'damaged' but they could make out the phone number - but not the address - hence they text you to claim it...

nothing really new, been happening under the "UPS" guise for years

Absolutely - never a harm in mentioning it again though - not only for the members here, but I also know talk photography threads do tend to appear in Google quite quickly - so if anyone searches scam - they might find it, and not lose their money :)

I can, people can be very gullible - the microsoft IT support telephone scam has been around for how long now? This report was in the Telegraph this month, people are still falling for it... :(

So I have no doubt people would fall for a TrackmyParcel type scam.

Just registered as this is the only site I have found information on this website.

Basically I received the text today and instantly thought 'this seems a bit dodgy'. But I am actually expecting a parcel from another country, so how have they got my information? Will my parcel still arrive? I'm confused, I was actually nearly stupid enough to go to the shop and purchase a UKASH voucher and pay the fee (although I was a bit annoyed as to why the company I have bought from didn't pay correctly).

I hope my parcel is delivered :-(

The people sending the text have no idea you are expecting a parcel. They most likely do not have any of your details. The texts are sent at random to thousands of numbers. Sooner or later someone who receives the text will be expecting a parcel.

Not responding to the request for payment will not affect whether your parcel arrives.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm annoyed at myself for almost falling for it now :-(

I'm sure they'll be plenty more people who get scammed though unfortunately!

Well done to you for not falling for it... Now why not have a look around at some of the great photos posted while you're here? Or if not a photographer - pass on our wonderful friendly forum to anyone you know...

And that fed into google amazingly quickly! So thanks Yv.. I'm glad I saved someone £20 :) Thanks for letting it be here - being a little off the topic of photography as it is..

There appears to be another thread on google search now. Wel done and thanks for getting it out there guys!

If GoDaddy made more of an effort to police their own service the number of scam sites would drop dramatically, it seems every time one of these scam sites comes up it's GoDaddy hosted.

I can now confirm that this is indeed a scam, as my parcel turned up this morning that I was expecting!

Godaddy replied - and said it's not one of theirs - although my basic whois enquiry said it was..

Anyone clever enough to delve into who it can be reported to? And to find out who the domain is registered with?

Thanks Brian - That's the result I got. To me that says 'Godaddy'.

Godaddy said:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for contacting GoDaddy. We are not the hosting provider for this site. We have neither access to, nor jurisdiction over the content on this site. To determine who the web hosting provider is, you can use a publicly-available tool like http://www.kloth.net/services/nslookup.php. This tool will give you the resolving IP address which can then be compared to ARIN.net's (http://www.arin.net) IP allocation database. This will give you the relevant information for the true hosting provider.

Any issues regarding the content of the website will need to be addressed either directly to the owner of the site or to the hosting provider (who should be in a position to assist you with your concerns). If you have a complaint about the issue of ownership or wording of the domain name itself (as opposed to the content hosted on the associated website), that matter will need to be taken up with the domain name owner directly, or should be filed in a UDRP or court proceeding. Our internal policies, as well as ICANN regulations, prevent us from acting as the arbiter of domain name disputes.

Sincerely,

Content Abuse Team
GoDaddy

So I entered the URL into kloth.net - and it gave me the IP address 37.148.207.105 - I entered this into Arin.net - and it told me that it belonged to the RIPE Network Coordination Centre in Amsterdam.

Would anyone be kind enough to tell me have I got the right information - and have found where the site is registered? Should it be RIPE that this gets reported to?

Well RIPE points you back to godaddy!
The phone numbers given for technical and admin contacts would appear to belong to godaddy.

I read this as saying that all 37.148.207 addresses are delegated to godaddy Netherlands.
