Yes
I've had a quick search and can't find a thread about what router in the last few months.

So what router for a BT Infinity 2 connection (should I replace the modem as well)

I need 4 x Gigabit and wireless N. I also need the ability to VPN into it.

I am not interested in utilising an old PC to do this.

BT supplied me with the Home Hub 5 when they installed Infinity 2 for me in January last year.
I've had various routers over the years, firstly with a Thompson, then a Netgear, then the router supplied by BeThere (I forget the make and model), then a Linksys followed by another Netgear and although Netgear have always impressed me, the Home Hub 5 beats the lot hands down.
Opening ports, setting up a DMZ etc are a doddle to do with this router.
I know that all 4 ethernet ports are gigabit and by 'N' if you mean 802.11n 5GHz, then yes it also supports that.
Personally I don't use VPN but I know a couple of people who do and they also have the Home Hub 5.

A quick google around shows that any router with a built in VDSL modem will work so if you would prefer a different make, just have look at the various reviews.
Some people argue that keeping the router and modem seperate are better but I have nevere found a reason to go down this road.

Asus RT-N66U (or AC variant if you want to be all modern). Keep the modem. Depends what VPN server you want to run, but you may need to flash it with an alternate firmware.

PS. I think the HH5 allows a client to VPN, but doesn't accept an incoming VPN connection as a server. Of course, the right way to do this is with a PC with 2 ports running pfSense, a switch and an Asus RT-N66U acting as a access point....

The only other option I know of as a VPN server is the Vigor series, but I have no experience of them.

I replaced my Netgear DGND3700 with an Asus RT-AC66U when I switched to FTTC a few months ago and it hasn't needed a single reboot in that time (other than firmware updates). The Netgear used to lock up every few weeks, needing a good kick to get it going again.

Do you currently have Static WAN IP's? If you do this will have a bearing on what router you can use considerably, I had a DrayTek 2860N previously when we were with Sky FTTC primarily as the Sky Hub is absolute tosh, to be fair the Draytek didn't prove to be massively better, better reliability as it didn't reboot every 1-2 days but the wireless was simply shocking.

Now we are back with BT and the HomeHub5 is exhibiting strange disconnections on only the 2.4GHz channel, need to get the Channelyzer out and see whats going on as this has only started in the last 3-4days..

For reference, the VPN server ability of the Draytek is pretty good, however I personally use my Synology NAS to accomplish this, if you have a NAS it's worth looking into

Also, you need to define what you mean by "VPN into it".... You looking at setting up a road warrior setup or something more like a peer to peer server setup?

I have a Draytek at the moment I and want to move away from Draytek. Not the best performance. Good feature list, but overall not loving it.

Arad - the ability to remote into
my media server is my main concern. I am wondering if I just change to a random port and port forward. I can do most things I need then.

So VPn isn't really a requirement, more of a nice feature.

Still would go with the RT-N66U (or AC66U)
