Yes
as im getting very bored at home i thought i would make something

my ideas is to get a mdf bored and make a small airfield with it for model planes

i can use this for 2 things commercial aviation and world war 2 avaiation

i know model shops will do the bag of grass , little buildings etc

but what and how would i build the run way ie paints etc or is it a sheet of stickers ie grey and paint some lines on

what about lighting set up i know there can be loads added and i dont mind making 2 diffrent set up's

is there any where to look for this sort of thing ?

any ideas on both build and set ups would be appreciated

I've got a feeling Herpa do or did cardboard sections of taxiways etc with all the markings on them. No idea how to get them though as it was in a shop in Hamburg I saw something about them.

Maybe you could use a very fine grade sandpaper for taxiways?

Have a look at some railway modelling sites. HO railways are different scale but the same ideas for scenery building.

Sounds like a good plan Alex and I can loan you a couple of WWII fighters if you need them mate the Spit (1:72) and the P51D (1:48)

also what about tipex for line markings as its now a sponge on the end of the aplicator and will give an even line?

cheers pete i have got some ideas of what i want to do with them aswell

poss got a P - 51 Mustang all being well and a concorde lol

just to start me off

i've seen sheets of wet and dry sandpaper used for tarmac before as it has a scale like texture (depending upon grade and scale you're looking for)

Dad was into model railways ("N" Gauge - 2mm : 1' 1:148th scale IIRC) and used THIS LOT for all the wires, LEDs and other electronic bits he needed. 1:72nd scale is a lot less fiddly and there are loads of pre-made bits of lighting kit available from places like Hattons models (again, IIRC). A copy of Model Rail or similar will be full of adverts and web addresses to investigate.

use LEDs for the lights, f you want I'll give you a hand with a circuit diagram so they don't blow up :p

guessing you can solder?

done a little bit over my time lol

got a general knowledge just have to buy a solder gun and solder to go with it which i think you can buy both for £5.00

used to have a gas version that cost me a fortune but has gone walkies

if you get a schematic of what you want and where the lights are then we can bash out a lighting diagram and order leds cable soldering stuff and a power supply in one hit

yes i will do might be a few weeks though i need to find a suitable runway

the one i posted a link to is a decent size but im not sure about it would rather build it myself and have fun , arngryness and lots of swearing lol

i already have a big big board of mdf so is not a problem to get started
