I am curious as to how a post can appear under the What's New button but not in the New Posts section and presumably vice versa, although I haven't experienced the latter?

Was it your post you were looking for as in the 2nd picture ?
Your own posts have never appeared in "new posts" I always assumed that was for posts you haven't read

Yes, that is the case, I wasn't really looking for it, I just noticed it wasn't there.
That would explain it. Never too old to learn. You can close this now.
