Yes
Looks like Kodak are ditching 400nc and 400vc for this film which falls in the middle of the two

At least they are still bringing out new films

Kodak Portra 400

they do bring out new stuff in film :)

like that vivitar camera :D

p.s. looks like a magnificent film. can't wait to test it. finally no NC VC nonsense.

I really liked Portra 400VC so I hope it gives results that have a similar look but looking at their diagrams it seems to be identical to NC in terms of contrast and with lower saturation so that its in-between the two. Looks in-between in terms of sharpness as well but with finer grain.
I just hope they don't do the same with the Portra 160 as I like the 160VC as it is.

I suspect that will do just that, just as Fuji have done. With that said, if it is like the Fuji you can effectively choose to make the film vivid or neutral just by modifying the exposure.

Thanks, that's interesting. 160VC and 400VC are my favourites, I had a brief flirtation with Ektar 100 last year but found the colours a bit OTT on occasion.

I have been reading a thread on another unnamed forum and there are a few people disappointed with this, especially considering they are not selling it in 10x8 format.

Apparently you can get custom sized film made but the minimum order is $10k!!! And people actually do this!!

I've seen the call for requests on the Ilford site but forget the time of year. I guess (hope) the minimum order would be less for 'standard' sizes.

Ilford usually have a link on their site around April/May which goes to a PDF listing what ultra large format sizes will be available for order from participating dealers each year. Silverprints on the list, theres quite a number of unusual large sizes and theres no minimum order!

Heres this years PDF:

Well we'd better all get saving then!

Soooo, I noticed that this is now available at my local developers. Has anyone used it yet? I have heard very good things...

I would love to have a go as according to reviews in magazines, it is very good with very fine grain and a good level of saturation and sharpness. However I can only find it being sold in 5 packs at the moment and at the rate I go through a 35mm film (averagely takes about 1 month at least) its not really worth it sadly for the price. I'l have to wait until I can get single rolls.

I looked on there about a week and half ago and it wasn't listed yet, thanks for telling me. The old VC and NC versions were about a £1 cheaper before but the price will come down to about the same eventually.
I only tend to buy Portra occasionally because of the price but I love the results. Although its intended for portraits I've found its fine for general use as well and the pictures I took in Turkey with Portra 160VC last year on holiday looked superb not mattering whether they were of landscapes, buildings or people.

I literally just got an order of film delivered from 7dayshop, when I placed my order there wasn't any listing for the new Portra so I just bought 160NC and Pro 400H! I've seen some fantastic results from it though and apparently it's not so saturated as Ektar which in my eyes is certainly a good thing. Next time I place an order I'll pop some in the basket.

I'd like to give this a try, but I need to hold off buying any more film for a while, I've got more film than I have money to develop it at the moment!

Off to check flickr for some shots...

I bought mine from 7dayshop - Silverprint and AG Photographic also stock it.

AG photographic have it in stock, or they did a couple of weeks ago when I bought some. Not had chance to shoot it yet. I also bought some Portra 160 in 5x4. I think that might get used first.
