Apparently this freeware by google has only been released a week ago, but already i'm starting to enjoy it's processing capabilities and ease of use (even to a non-photographic expert like my younger brother who is already editing recently taken pics.)

imho for ease of accessibility and userface google have really surpressed themselves with this. Although the disadvantages are no layering aspects (enabling the user to crop&paste photo's over another) such as with Photoshop/GIMP. There is options on the PICASA 3 which would take hours of perfect to realistically achieve the same results with any other platform.

Not everyone will like it, but for a beginner who would otherwise be easily lost amongst all the technical jumble. It's in my personal opinion something that's been awaited for many years.

I've been using picasa for years  v3 has been out for a while now.

It's nice and easy for organising, but it's editing capabilities are severely limited. I used it in conjunction with canon's DPP and G.I.M.P. for a free but powerful combination, if quite clumsy to use, since I had to use three programs, picasa to organise, DPP to raw convert and G.I.M.P for processing).

Good for any photographer looking for fast, easy and free organisation, but if you're willing to spend any money then a program like lightroom outclasses it by a long way for a combination of organising and editing.
