Well done..there can't be many half frame uses around as the 35mm only compacts can be so small and can be picked up for peanuts at bootsales and charity shops.

A couple of frames from my Mamiya M645 1000s. I have been trying to use some of my old film cameras this year.

and with the prism finder with 90 degree whatsit...handy for tripod work.

Yep! that's definitely prettier!

The 645's are much better, half frame and aps are really small negs, good enough for 6x4 prints which is what they were designed for but scanners are always gonna struggle.

I'm interested in that 90 degree wotsit, does it do anything else and does it have an advantage over pan/tilt or ball head ?

The 90 degree whatsit is for the first Mamiya m645 cameras, it lets you quickly change from horizontal to vertical shooting when on a tripod. It has a couple of extra pins that engage with holes in the undedrside of the cameras so there is no twist of the camera as can happen with just the tripod bolt holding the camera. I does not fit the later Mamiya 645 models like the "Pro" as the body shape changed. I find vertical shooting with the "Pro" no problem with a motor wind attached as it will just hang from my right hand in the same way a SLR does and mamiya 645s are not any really heavier than the likes of the F4 and F5.

F100 and 50mm AFD a very good combo. Like the quayside photograph very much.

Richard, medwaygreen. Thank you for the kind comment on the photo. Yes I like the F100, I have used it quite a bit this year, generally without the vertical grip and with just prime lenses. I start out with a 35mm D lens and carry a 28mm D and the 50mm D and take it from there. A nice light carry.

I also have C330 and a few lenses. A wonderful camera and one I use regularly. A couple of very nice shots there

Thanks for that Andy.
Yes good cameras, some would say rather heavy but I think they are worth the carry for the lenses which I find very good indeed.
The two photographs above were taken with the 80mm lens which I use as my go to lens for flowers. I like the square format for plants and flowers.

A snap of my cat Teasel taken earlier this year with my Ricoh Mirai camera, AKA Batman's camera.

Film is the Poundland special labelled Agfa Vista Plus 200.

Sadly Teasel is no longer with us, he had to be put down when it became obvious that he could no longer live with the congenital defects he had inherited. Only a couple of years old yet he made such an impression on all who met him, he had such a huge personality and was the most intelligent cat who ever owned me. It was a very stark warning to me to check very carefully the pedigree of any future kittens that acquire me, as the saying goes dogs have owners, cats have staff.

So, not a bad final photo, I think I probably see it differently to others.

and so the camera, rather unusual but great fun to use. I seem to be drawn to quirky ones.....note the pop up flash and the telephoto lens which attaches to the existing lens.

So we come to my Olympus IS-3000, I really like this camera from the handy size of it and the useful zoom length of 35mm to 180mm. The lens I find produces seriously good IQ. This camera I would recommend to anyone wanting to shoot film with just one camera.

A couple of frames from the middle of the year which I think give a flavour of the ability of the lens. Film is AGFA Vista PLUS 200, Asda developed and home scanned.

Congratulations Andrew as you don't mind using one of the ugliest cameras ever made ;)

Hi Brian, so which camera is the ugly one?

The members find it amusing that one of my favourite cameras is the Canon T70 that I use quite a lot and they consider it ugly:-

I had a couple of those T70s on a home made rig I shot stereo slides with. Worked a treat. Made up two remotes to fire from one trigger. One T70 packed in though so only the one now. I think I might try again with a couple of T90s.

Great minds think alike (y) ;)....I use my T90 for special occasions esp with the excellent flashgun 300TL, but horses for course and have got the Nikon F90x because I needed a AF camera for fast moving grandchildren and hoping it will also AF in dim conditions when manual focusing is more difficult.

T90 is a cracking camera, its got the best spot metering system I have come across so far.

Never tried it yet as you are supposed to be able to spot meter on about 8 subjects and it's held in memory to average the readings when you take the shot (y)...great camera and shame the fault of the sticky shutter if left unused for a long time.

Yes I only seen that once when I was using nicads, I switched to lithium cells and it sorted itself out on switch on and I have not had a problem since To be sure it does not go long between uses as its a good camera, I would have stuck with Canon if they had not not changed to lens mount, I had a good collection of lenses and it really got me they were dumping the FD system and expecting me to buy into the auto focus mount. Shot A1s and a growing collection of Canon manual cameras and some MF from various manufacturers since1979 to about 8 years ago and when I went digital and chose Nikon, still held a grudge against Canon about the change of lens mount. Still prefer film so when I had a few Nikon lenses there was no reason nit to pick up a Nikon film body or two. I love digital it has been responsible for the ever growing collection of film cameras and lenses I now own, without digital some of the leneses I now have for MF would have been way out of my reach.....Still as I tell folks its not digital or film, its digital and film, you do not have to choose one or the other.....

IIRC one guy here had his T90 shutter seize and it wasn't stored, and IIRC what I read is that if you are unlucky some part of the mechanism can go gooey over time which causes it to stick........but as the T90 is going so cheap and say it only last for 4 years, well I always say:- you can use a great camera for as little as 20p\week. and throw it away.......Well I suppose that is the same maths as for any old VG camera.
So far my two T70's have cost me 10p\week  and still working.(y)

Yes they do go for very little money, I do get concerned about the longevity of the canon manual SLRs, I have a couple of A1s that have a real bad cough and despite paying for them to be serviced the cough returned very quickly. I still put a film through them every now and then but, must admit that as I have got older I find auto focus a real help so use the Nikon F100 a fair bit these days for 35mm, even so auto focus aint perfect only as good as the user.
I have been putting a Poundland film through some of the cameras I have been given or bought in charity shops, I started with the half frame ones I rend to go for the quirky ones often wondering how they made it to the market in the first place but been supprised how usable many of them are. Of course not so easily carried as the compacts and that seems to be a real priority to many shooters these days, try carrying a Mamia TLR around for the day, that will build some muscles.....:D

The A1 is also a VG camera and got my one for my usual bootsale cheap price with a 50mm f1.4 lens......as you know the cough is caused by the mirror damping system starting to seize and when I bought my camera didn't hear any slight cough (well I wasn't wearing my hearing aids  ) but worse I didn't spot that the mirror wasn't returning back fast (all tied into the cough)...well I solved it by following the instructions of taking the bottom plate off and putting a small drop of oil on the mechanism, well that was about 2 years ago and it's still ok.
With my f90x AF, I was reading that even some digi cameras have a problem focusing in dim light esp if the subject is not contrasty...well I have to do some tests using my F90x in dim light with a canon A model flashgun to see if it works (all on manual except for the AF lens)...so far without using film it looks promising.

T90 is a cracking camera, its got the best spot metering system I have come across so far.

Try the EOS-3 or EOS-1v if you want to talk about metering (and excellent AF for that matter) - to all intents and purposes it's the same metering and AF that Canon had in their range-topping pro digital cameras for the first three revisions of the 1D... basically, it was so good from the film cameras, that they didn't have to update it when the digital stuff came out. Okay, you would need to actually spend decent money on the lenses to go with it, but, if you've already got a bag of EF L lenses, then you're laughing...

And yes, I know, they're apparently soul-less, and look and feel just like digital bodies, and they're not what a lot of people want to shoot with, but that's fine... for me, they're simply a tool to get the job done - and if I've been comissioned to shoot stuff on Film, and I'm also shooting for myself on digital, then it's great that I can switch between the two without having to think about it, and that I can share a single bag of lenses.

ETA: I did actually buy a T-90 a while back, but sadly it had been messed around with (taken apart to cure the sticky shutter problem, and not put back together correctly, so the lens mount kind of wobbled...) I had an extended "play" with it for a couple of days before returning it, and yes, it's a good camera - I see it as sort of a "missing link" between the wonderful A-1 and F-1 's and the film EOS's, and I think if I shot more 35mm I'd be tempted to get a decent copy, but it'd be more from a "collection completing" point of view than any deep desire to own that particular body. Basically, it's sort of got all the downsides of each of it's near relatives... It feels less tactile and engineered than the A-1 say, and it's not got AF or the possibility to use EF lenses to the full like the EOS's.

Ever since you you recommended the EOS-3 and eos1... years ago I've being looking out for them at the bootie but you don't see them...so settled for the F90x with a body stopper of F Nikkor 50mm lens for £12. The sigma tele zoom I bought previously on a F401 works ok on it and quite sharp. which just left me to get the non tele Nikkor zoom....so I'm in the AF crowd now and use it on occasions. (y).
Also been looking out for the Canon QL17? (which you also mentioned years ago) and haven't seen that either

OK on the hearing aids, I have been substantially deaf from birth, I lived a very quiet life until around 5 years ago when I got fitted with digital aids. What a noisy place the world is. Having different frequencies missing from my range the old type of hearing aids were useless they just amplified everything which was no use at all. When I got the digital ones programmed for my hearing deficiency is was a whole new world, heard birds sing for the first time, music really made sense but I still cannot manage telephones. Still nice to get them out and return to the world I know best though.

Yes Mark I read some of the EOS cameras are very very good but I cannot see me investing in another range of lenses. It reached the point at the beginning of this year that I had to downsize my gear so been have shooting some cameras over the summer and kept the ones I really liked but have given three shopping bags full to the local hospice charity shop so far. I cannot make my mind up about the Canon T80 though, as an auto focus camera it sucks but I really like the look of it and I have three lenses for it. It was a gift from a rather embarrassed acquaintance who was having difficulty admitting he bought it new when they came out, so twenty years later he was having a clear out and it came my way once I had promised not to divulge the source of it. For some it is being seen with right gear is most important, I suppose that is why some manufacturers manage to stay in business.

Well when you think about it human ears have evolved over millions of years and should be perfect for what we use them for..anyway the ones I use are the free national health ones and they said "they can't match people with normal hearing" h'mm human beats machine, whether they meant the ones they are given away or the top ones that millionaires use is a thought o_O But many times my aids are useless, but what can you do.......................................................................

Well before I got issued with the digital ones the models I had from the NHS were pretty useless but several years ago I had these new digital ones issued by the NHS here in Scotland and as far as I know they are now standard issue here, they have made a big difference to me. The technician does the hearing test and a graph is produced on the laptop she then programs the aids to make up for the freqs, I cannot hear very well and then brings the overall volume up to a level that is supposed to be average normal hearing. It makes a huge difference, so are you telling me they do not issue digital hearing aids in England?

Same in England but did have a MRI scan first to see if there was a medical problem, but pressing a buzzer when you think you hear a frequency is a bit hit and miss IMO and probably because of the time allowed for each patient they can't spend hours getting the graph perfectly right to match the frequencies lost by the human ear, also with these new digital aids there is no volume control.
Also I did suggest that they should test my hearing with the aids in to fine tune everything....but they said they don't do that
Anyway good luck with your hearing and it does come in handy being deaf when you don't want to hear something ;)

edit: forgot to mention that I lost my R ear aid and in the meantime bought one from China £3.91..well you can whack the volume up with this one:-

These next two frames were taken on my Kiev 4, a Russian camera made at the Arsenal factory in Kiev.

I am not a lover of rangefinder cameras but it seems they love me because I am never without a couple of them. Every time I dispose of one I end up buying another to replace it. They fascinate me, their feel and the way they work. I have had this one for a few years now and I imagine it will be with me for a few more years. I have had one rangefinder for more that 40 years and it does get a regular airing and that is the Agfa Super Isolette but not had a film through it this year.

Film is again Agfa sourced from Poundland.

This Kiev 4 is in full working condition including the light meter and has a very good lens as may be seen from the above two frames.
