new photography TV show soon?

From Suzi Perry's twitter feed:
I'm filming a new show for 5 today called I'm filming a new show for 5 today called 'How to take stunning photo's' ...It will air quite soon, I'll let you know when I find out! Hello
I really hope is not titled with an apostrophe ...photo's... :cuckoo:

I hope it's better than the Gadget Show's efforts.

Hmmm, are you stalking Suzy Perry ? :D

Regards the OP, I'd love to see something, but my guess would be that it's not that informative and probably on at a time I'm either at work or in bed....

Hmmmm, Why not? :naughty:

Never heard of recording the show?

Hate the gadget show

But love Suzy!!;)

Oh I can record it, but they just seem to put these shows on when nobody can watch them.

Heard about this, it is on Channel 5 around mis September. I know they are doing an episode on skateboarding with Bob Martin as the photographer, which should be interesting (maybe for all the wrong reasons, but we will see). I would presume they have Suzi Perry in to be the face of it (and what a face it is!). It will either be shocking, or it may be good. I remain undecided, but will be good to see photography on the TV at least.

Stills photography, as a subject for TV, is pretty limited. As an art it is pretty reastricted to a particular audience - and one that most will consider the end result (a photograph) is not best displayed on a flickering screen. If it is a 'how-to' it is in danger of alienating those already in the know and being too difficult for novices to follow....

BBC 4 has shown some great 'photography' stuff, the best (I think) being The Genius of Photography series a couple of years ago.

There was a thread on here asking for 'volunteers' for the show, you needed to be available mid-week for filming and at short notice as the selection process was going to be near the shooting date and you had to be close to London.
They required people who were technically pretty ok and very enthusiastic about their hobby but wanted to learn from the experts in the field, there were several categories they were going to shoot, landscape, portrait, sport etc. Each volunteer would probably be invited to do two of the sessions and there would be two volunteers for each session.

The film company are well respected and have done some quite good stuff, they have also done some right old rubbish (in my view). Overall I think they were trying to do a good programme and move themselves into a slightly different arena.

How do I now this - I went along for an interview - didnt get invited to join the show, I didnt know who was going to present it, nor who the experts were going to be.
So I'll be waiting with baited breath to see why I was rejected and who they selected :)

Not a very nice person.:shake:

There was some posts about this a while back on some of the pet forums.

They were after people who liked taking pictures off their pets, but needed pro advise to get better shots.

They (the production company) said that you would be using your own equipment, with the help of a pro, to get better images.

Can't see how this will be making good tv........

How much were they paying....?

Another consumer program? I expect this to be a bit of a let down.

Nothing like giving something a chance before you've even seen it eh! ;)

It will be interesting to see what they come up with. I'd rather have something on TV about Photography than nothing.

Jon Bentley seems to be the Photo 'expert' on the Gadget Show, so I expect him to be involved in some way.

Did she turn you down?;):p
No, She was really nasty to a bike tech on the track at a donnington meet a couple of years ago.
What she failed to realise was that he had more of right to be there than she did.
So she was actually in his way.

Wait and see I think. Like the Gadge Show, like Suzi, like photography, what could possibly go wrong.

Andy

The Gadget Show is great (ok it has its ups and downs). That said nothing will beat Tomorrow's World :-( throughout the 80's

I hope it's better than the Gadget Show's efforts.

The gadget show is a joke.
I stopped watching it when they tried to convince me that a jacket or a pair of trainers were gadgets. :cuckoo:

If you want to know what constitutes as a gadget. It has to have either/or lights, motors, buttons, a screen and a speaker or two. plus the ability to make me go, oooooww....I want one!!! :D

i stopped watching it cos that little baldy bloke has got his head so far up his own ass,he thinks the show is all about him:thumbsdown:

I think Jason Bradbury is very funny. Ortis is cool too. I think the gadget show was good fun. I will keep an eye out for this program. There is always going to be people that are above the skill level of the program, but that happens, and it will not be aimed at pros, it will be at people thinking of taking it up and those that have skills but are looking at improving. Cant make all of the people happy all of the time.

Isn't photo's a shortening of photographs though? In which case an apostrophe is correct to show the omission of some letters.

I don't mind the gadget show, but they do seem to take up a whole segment reading out the list of prizes you can win in their great competition, that costs a pound to enter, makes them a fortune, and you stand a very slim chance of winning. If they dropped it they would have an extra 15 minutes for the show.

Never got that far, from what I gathered it was going to be nothing.
So the spongers have appropriated free material by (as usual) scavenging other peoples lives and they even had the gall to interview those who were willing to give their time away?

You couldn't make it up

Pretty much everything is being filmed in HD these days.

But does Five broadcast in HD anywhere?

Soon to be on Sky and Virgin ( May already be, I'm not sure!) And starting broadcasting on terrestrial near the end of the year i think.

Not been keeping up with the broadcasting stuff for a while!

I have to agree here! I was at the gym the day she filmed the ridiculous flip flop that you could fill with water and drink from.

She looks WAY older in real like than on TV!

Photo is short for photograph, the apostrophe doesn't apply to plurals so it's photos.

So surely it should be photo' and photo's. The apostrophe isn't because it's plural but because it's shortened.

Following my confusion I googled it and it seems that until recently 'photo' should have had an apostrophe but 'photo' has been accepted as a word in its own right so no longer does, although both forms are still technically accepted.

:bang:

Where has photo ever been written as photo'? I don't recall seeing it - although I do think 'phone (contracted from telephone, obviously!) might have still been in use when I was still at school 40 years ago. Actually I can't think of a contraction that ends with an apostrophe 's' at all.

Anyway looks like the programme will be called 'How To Take Stunning Pictures' - thus avoiding any problems with misplaced apostrophes!

An apostrophe doesn't indicate a shortened word, it indicates where two words have been joined together with letters removed. eg,

it's = it is
shouldn't = should not

Of course, apostrophes are also used in possessives.
