I'm due a new phone upgrade, and I've been told I can basically have any phone out there, so...

So for the very rare occasion I don't have my camera with me which phone has the best camera?

What do you guys recommend?

I've heard good things about the LG G3, anyone have one?

Lumia 1020 has the best camera out there.

The G3's camera is decidedly average - it's not bad, like the HTC M8, but it's not good, like the iPhone, and it's definitely not excellent, like the 1020.

What's the lumia like as a phone?

The lumia is a windows phone and if you use and like windows 8 on your computer you would probably like the lumia as it uses the same tile layout. I personally have always used Android phones and can't get on with Apple or windows phones and currently have the HTC M8 which is a great phone the camera is okay for the times I don't have my DSLR with me for snap shots. Dont't get me wrong if I spent a while using a different platform then I would probably be okay with it.

The problem is everyone will have their favourite phone "platform" whether it is Android, Apple or windows and it is a personal choice as to which one suits you the most.Your best bet will be to go into a store and ask someone to let you try different phones, then you will be able to test the cameras and their interfaces etc.

hear alot of good reports about the sony Xeperia z1 compact and Z2. a photographer friend has recently switches from an iphone to the Z2 and has been taking some amazing shots with it

Lumia also shoots DNG RAW. It's that good a camera. Manual controls, too....

just checked specs of the xperia
CAMERAPrimary20.7 MP, 5248 х 3936 pixels, autofocus, LED flash, check quality
Features1/2.3'' sensor size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, image stabilization, HDR, panorama
doesnt state file format of images though
add to that its a very very nice camera ) just gotta wait 2 months before i get mine when my contract ends!

I'm really pleased with the shots from my z1, its contrat time for me anf I'm like the OP looking for a good camera phone.
I have the windows phones, well the OS. It just does not do it for me.
I like the z1 but the z2 is not much of an upgrade.
Maybe an note 4?

ona plus note looks like android have announced a RAW support update coming soon so with new firmware you'll be able to shoot raw images on phones like the z1 compact and z2 ( might be specific to sony or across the entire android range, saw it last night )

Its likely that RAW support for android will be any device that runs android L 5.0
I believe the source code for current versions of android contains RAW functionality but ad of yet google havent deployed it main stream.

Another vote for S5 only issue is not full control and if like me like up close and personal auto focus /tap focus sometimes completely ignores your subject which is very annoying.

I wish you could control the focus point... but taking shots in good light it is excellent.

quick google confirms
Google confirms updated Android 4.4 Kitkat camera API with RAW support.
though that was posted a while back it seems its now confirmed as a definite in android L ( which i guess is 5 ) not sure when thats due out though it does state autumn so could be anytime in the next couple of months hopefully which will conicide with getting my phone ( if bloody virgin get it back in stock! )

I rejected the Lumias because although they take great shots, they do so slowly- and I generally like the mobile for candids not posey or tripod shots. Samsung S4 is decent- but I use Procapture rather than the default camera.
