new PC with windows 8.1

I have bought a new PC with windows 8, problem is when typing my keyboard will not allow me to type the @ symbol,despite me pressing shift key to enable this

Help Please guys

Check the keyboard layout, it may be that you do not have it set for UK. Google "Windows 8 keyboard layout" for how to check and/or change. Would give more info but on my phone at the moment.
