New PC Recommendations

My current pc is running slower than a slow thing and just had the ok from the missus for a new one.
I want to be able to run cs5 and lightroom 3.
Budget around £700-800.
What should I be looking for, I am quite happy to go to one of the independants or online retailers with a spec. list, just need some guidance please.

Further to Neil's question, do you also need monitor, keyboard, mouse etc?

£700 will get you a good deal, more than good enough for what you need.

My preferred retailer is Novatech and others will prefer EBuyer, DABS, CCL etc. If you are competent at upgrading a PC, you could get a barebones unit and add your choice of graphics card, hard drives etc.

What I have done is bought a barebones, added a SSD hard drive for the OS and programs and two x 2GB hard drives for data storage. One 2GB drive holds my photos, work etc and is automatically backed up to the other. There is also an external drive to which everything is backed up. Remember to factor in the cost of backing up your data.

I would probably up grade my monitor, as to building it myself, I would prefer sombody to build it for me.
I had been looking at the Intel i5 quad core systems. Is this the way to go?
 
The current generation i5 (Sandybridge) processors are great at your price range coupled with 8gb RAM.
 
The PC Specialist website is always worth a look...

Didn't know you could still buy 2gb hard drives. Might hold a few photos. Perhaps you mean 2 x 2tb hard drives.
 
Now and again, I get a right good laugh at this place:p

Yep, TB was what I meant.
 
Thanks for the replies.
What if any is the differance between windows 7, home premium 64 bit and
professional 64 bit? apart from the extra cost.
