New PC - problems

There are ways of doing it so you move the location but it didn't seem worth the effort to me. I save manually to D: and E: and have next to nothing in My Anything on C:

Pleased you are now up and running, Win 7 is a far better kettle of fish.

Yes, just select one of your drives, load up your docs and photos then get into the routine of saving new docs and pics to that drive.

As Neil says above, right click on your new My Documents and add it to your library.

Hmm just noticed that when I go to
Start
Documents or Pictures
There is nothing there because they are in another drive :/ Can anybody explain how to change the location please?

Edit- think I've done it. Is it just a case of right clicking- include in library-documents/pictures?

Can actually run Photoshop and Lightroom smoothly at the same time! :0

Stupidly bought the gtx560ti with battlefield game not realising it was a download coupon. So far it's been about 24hours....43%..

Thats the problem with having to download the games.
Normally keep the coupons & sell them on to offset the price of the hardware ;)

And looking forward to eventually playing the game…sometime haha.
So thanks to everyone who helped spec it and help me set it up!
Not as quiet as I thought it would be with those stock 200mm fans though.

They are connected to a fan controller which is built into the case. 3 speed settings. On the lowest it isn't particularly silent. Although it is sitting on my desk.

I've noticed I can adjust the fans via Asus software, but I guess that's only if they're plugged into the motherboard?
Also, how do 3.5" controllers work when I only have full bays? Need an adaptor or something?

If you change the location of all of your data from the C: drive life can be simpler when backing up, restoring etc.

Ensure the PC is set to show the User Documents folder on the desktop by right-clicking a blank bit of desktop, then choose "Personalise" from the menu. In the top left of the screen that pops up is "Change Desktop Icons". Check "User's Files", click OK.

Back on the desktop you now get a folder with your user name. Open that and you'll see several sub-folders, such as Desktop, My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, etc etc.

Right-click each folder in turn, choose "Properties" from the menu and look for the "Location" tab. That will probably read "C:\Users\Username\Desktop" (or whatever the folder is called in place of Desktop)

Simply change the C to a D (or E or whatever drive you wish to use) and click OK. You get two warnings, asking if you're sure and if you want to move everything from the old place to the new. Say yes to both warnings.

I haven't yet found a way to move all sub-folders in one go, so you have to do this for all folders in there.

Sorry, I missed this the other day.

With an SSD as a boot disk, you should move the complete Users directory to a separate drive IMHO. If you only move the individual Pictures/Documents etc. settings as suggested by PhotoMonty, you still leave the hidden files in your profile on the SSD. Examples of your hidden files include all your application data including your browsing cache, temporary files, all your settings etc... A 60G SSD will eventually start filling - especially if you have multiple accounts.

The best way of moving the user files is with a registry change. It is very simple to do. See: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/87555-user-profile-change-default-location.html for instructions.

I also did the second step which is to tell the system to create any new users in the second drive as well. Although there is only one user on this machine, it is future proofed ;)
 
That does seem like the best way then :)

Ok Andy, I've followed the instructions in the link above but it won't let me delete the User/Ben folder. As it says it's in use :s
I've created an admin user and logged out of the 'Ben' user.

Try a reboot.... If you have done it right, you won't be using any files on the C:\ drive.

When I click start then the username on the top right it still shows the folders in C drive :thinking:

In which case, you haven't done it right ;) At a guess, you haven't pointed the right user folder over in steps 10 to 14 to the right new place..

Just used to Asus Suite to overclock the CPU. Tuned it to Fast instead of Extreme as I have a standard cooler atm.

Can't believe the temps, they're so low! Not sure there's a need for water cooling yet lol.
 
I do hope your Vertex will live longer than mine ;D

Woah I see what you mean about stock cooler, playing battlefield 3 the CPU and GPU went up to 70ish!

70 is okay. my i7-2600k will run that when sat at 100% on all cores for a few hours recoding a blu-ray rip.

for fluctuating usage like youd see in a game that is quite poor performance from the stock cooler.
 
So the question is to water cool or not..hmmm :thinking:
What sort of temperatures would I see from a decent air cooler?
 
Can you recommend a stress test for me to try?
(I did one on my old PC, but forgotten the name)

Install,, start and click Sensor Test and Download and run prime. That'll max your CPU nicely whilst letting you know what the temps are.
