Hi guys,

I need a new pc monitor & would love some expert advice on this harrowing subject. :-/

I've got a budget of £150 & it will be used for photo editing only.

I've heard so much about back lit, side lit, IPS etc, I'm totally confused.

I doubt you will get an ips with a budget of £150. IPS renders colours better than standard monitors, IPS is the way forward but you may need to up your budget to nearer £300/£400.

On your budget I would look at some benq monitors on overclockers.co.uk

I'm pretty sure you can now get IPS for less than £300, but it's pretty essential for photo editing as if find TN does not give very accurate colours at all.

I bought a Dell U2412M 24" WideScreen IPS for just over £200 in october last year and it's the best monitor I've had by far, and I've had a few of them in my time. I'm sure they are under £200 now so it might be worth stretching your budget a little to see what you can get. The one I got has 'Display Port' and DVI input but no HDMI, but you can get an adapter from HDMI to DVI and others. It's a great monitor for the money and a great resolution for photo processing.

You can buy an IPS monitor for ~£100 if you are limited in budget. It won't be as good as the more expensive Dells, but they are definitely better than the TN panels.
PS. We have one of the 22.5" ones and I'm quite impressed actually. Not compared direct with my calibrated Dells, but looked good from a first quick look on the laptop (Ms arad85 has it as an additional monitor for business use).

See: http://www.ebuyer.com/388225-lg-ips224v-21-5-led-lcd-hdmi-monitor-ips224v-pn

or it's bigger brother (same resolution)

Any experience of these or this one?

If using for photo editing, get the best you can afford. You also need to factor in buying a colour calibrator, but maybe not straight away.

So am I right it saying get any LCD in my budget with IPS or are there ones to avoid?

This could be worth considering.

LG 23" IPS

Seems to have good reviews on amazon as well as reevoo as well as overclock.net

I'd go for this one too. I bought the 23" model (U2312HM) and I'm sorry I didn't go for the 24", with the extra height (another 120 pixels).
