Hi guys. I am after a few pointers for ordering a new PC. I am using a 6 year old laptop at the min and it struggles when processing panoramas etc or multiple raw files due to low ram plus my hard drive is down to 0% disk space left.
What are the min specs I should be looking for when ordering a desktop. I already have a separate editing screen so won't need this. Doing a wee bit of reading up, a ssd drive for the operating system seems to be recommended plus a larger hard drive for file storage.
All help greatly appreciated.

Phil.

Wot Neil said.

i5 quad core, 8-16gb ram, ssd for os/programs/working files, gpu capable of running the display at the required resolution.

Thanks Neil. That will give me something to work on. There is so much choice out there. H want to get something ordered over the next few weeks.

Something else to think about ....... An external hard drive 1 - 2 Tb's
I have one and it holds all my photos. This keeps the pc free just for programs

Yea John, I have 1 and It is used as a backup for everything on my harddrive. I like 2 copies.

Thats no problem ......... Use two external hard drives. They are now quite small and have come down a lot in price.
Then you can still keep your hard drive pretty much clear

I have 2 internal drives, one being the default location for all pictures and music files. The other smaller one is used for programs only. I also use an external drive for backup. HTH's.
