Yes
Now, I've been out of the IT game for a little while, and as my laptop has slowed to a crawl - I think it's time I start looking at a new desktop. I'll be using it for photography and graphic design, so this means Lightroom/Capture One (just started using Capture One and I'm still deciding), InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop CS3. I've come up with the below system and just wanted a few thoughts:

1 x ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP AiLifestyle Series Motherboard
1 x Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 6400
1 x Coolermaster RC-1000 Cosmos Full Tower Case
1 x Optiarc AD-7200S 20X DVD±RW/DL/RAM Internal SATA Drive
1 x Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3GHz Socket CPU
1 x Innovision GeForce 7600GS 512MB DDR2 PCI-E Graphics Card
2 x Samsung SpinPoint HD501LJ 500GB SATAII HDD
1 x XPro Black Internal 3.5" 17-in-1 Card Reader
2 x Samsung SM206BW 20" TFT Monitor Widescreen 1600x1050 3000:1 300cd/m2 2ms RGB/DVI
1 x Antec TruePower Trio 550W PSU

And that comes to a total of £1001.27 including VAT and delivery from Ebuyer.

Not bad, but it'll come with Vista and I want to get back to having 2 monitors. And, it'd mean having to go into Greasy World! ;)

mmmm not sure, a work colleague has just bought nearly the same except the monitor was a 19". It was £350 on ebay ...newly built inc. P&P

Really? That's very good! I'd be interested to know what the system is like. Do you have a link? I've just had a quick look but I couldn't find anything.

i will ask for the link tomorrow

i know its a place in liverpool

I agree with Roody262,if you can afford it i would go for more RAM 4GB seems to be pretty standard these days although i only have 3GB myself. All the rest looks good to me.

The 2GB already there is around £50, so going for 4GB won't be a big difference in cost.

Nice spec indeed. I recommend getting 2 8800 GTxs though, just to make sure! :D

Great price for the system including the monitor.

Yeah, yeah - I know - Pony GFX! I'm not going to be using it for games (that's what my 360 is for) and while I'd love to get an SLi system for extra geek points, is an Innovision 512MB 7600GS going to be okay for general Photoshop/graphics work?

It will be more than enough, you only need to worry about getting a top spec graphics card if you're into gaming, modelling or video editing etc, basically anything that renders 3D objects.

That said, that would do for a lot of games out these days, maybe not at full spec, but enough!

That's fine and dandy then! I only hope it's man enough to run 2 20" monitors at full resolution!
