hi guys not sure if this is in the right place, ive just got a new pc as my old one has packed up, and i cant for the life of me remember what codec to download to view Canon RAW cr2 files in windows explorer :( ive tried the canon one and loads of others but nothing seems to let me view them in explorer, ive got a program to view them in program but i want to be able to view in explorer as im use to that, any help at all would be great, thanks guys

Just tried the link and it said it was not suitable for my version of Windows (8.1)

when I re installed windows I downloaded that ardfry cr2 codec and all was fine but that was a trial and run out yesterday or the day before (15 day trial) they want $20 for the full version but I never paid before for this option to view in explorer :( its driving me bonkers

well none of the above has worked, think ive figured out why....

before i reinstalled windows i took a screen grab of my installed programs in case of problems like this, and before the install i had the Microsoft camera codec (16.4.1970.0624), and now the only version i can seem to find is this one (6.3.9721.0)

would anyone have a link to the old version as this new one does not seem to work with my system for some weird reason :(

How about this? I know you want to view them in explorer. I'm sure you have good reason to. Otherwise you wouldn't be trying so hard. But I, like many others, are happy to do all my picture management with other software where the thumbnails and previews of raw files are visible. So, as this is a problem, maybe you could tweak your workflow to include another piece of software, perhaps with other benefits.. So you can continue to work but without any disadvantages. Except perhaps getting used to as slight change.

Hi Ian, thanks for your reply, I just love using explorer, its all I have used and its so easy and im use to the layout, I like where it groups my types of images as in RAW's/JPEG's/FIT's etc, ive been using faststone to view my RAW's but that program does not allow me to view my FITs or video, so I still have to use explorer as well as faststone to view all my files, what program would you suggest that allows me to view RAW/TIFF/JPEG/FITs/XSIM/video all in one like explorer "USE" to do, god knows why it does not any more.... ive tried every codec on the planet, so god knows why it does not work any more

What are FIT files? Is that GPS data? And XSIM files? And how do you want to view them?

just type in 16.4.1970.0624 in to Google and try one of the Links!!!!

Or sensibly e-mail Canon for an answer, they always provide a link for me if I have a problem

Sorry for the late replies, only just got in from work :(

These are types of files produced with a program called PixInsight, its an astro photography program for processing and stacking, i would be the happiest man in the world if i could only view them as thumbnails in explorer as this is all i have used for god knows how long and im right in my comfort zone in explorer believe it or not, just simplicity that i know and enjoy viewing from without even thinking really

I have typed this in and tried every link, if you have a link that is not on google please send to me because i have tried everything foogle has to offer all with no avail!

mhhh....not gone down this route......but i dont understand why the links are not working as i was viewing with explorer before i got this crappy TornTv virus and reinstalled windows with the same version you have said to google....(16.4.1970.0624)

Think I had to install windows live photo gallery plugin before it worked on my win 7 64 bit system.
