Corel have just launched this latest version of Paint Shop Pro which they claim to be their most ambitious and fully featured version yet. I've been having a quick play with it, and it undoubtedly lives up to all the hype Corel are putting out.
It now has full support for loads of raw file formats, so it's a complete work flow solution under one roof. It has many new features while still retaining the good stuff from earlier versions, like the retouching tools and noise reduction filters. Yoiu can now put together video slide shows and Corel claim it also handles HD video.
It's very slickly presented and looks impressive, if a little graphically intensive now - it's all there if you can find it! It has lots of one- click -auto everything filters, which are seldom really the solution, or you can dispense with those and go hands on if you're more experienced. You can in fact run it in beginner mode with lots of tutorials and help at hand, or dispense with all that and run it in a more basic mode when it's far less cluttered.
You can dowload a free fully featured 30 day trial version from HERE. You have to register first.
The download is quick enough, but it then takes ages to unzip the file and ages again to install, and I'm running a pretty quick PC - it's a big programme.
I've found it a bit slow to work with, particularly on big 7D tiff files. I'll give it a fair go, but I don't think it will tempt me away from DPP and my really old version of Paint Shop Pro. My problem with all these big ambitious editing packages is that they provide far more than you really need even for advanced photo editing. Graphic designer types will probably benefit more.
For anyone looking for a complete editing solution though at a reasonable price, it's a snip at £79 compared to some of the alternatives. Depending on what earlier version of Paint Sho Pro you have you may qualify for an upgrade price of £59.
