Hello everyone. Hope all are keeping well and safe. I am in the market for buying a new 75 inch TV or larger and very confused what to go for. Have the LG CX 77" in mind but unable to justify over 3K for the TV. Heard that the Samsung QLED is nothing but a marketing term for LCD. Went over to JLL a few weeks ago before second lock down and was told that LG and Sony OLEDs are the best. Anyone here has bought 75" OLED over larger size perhaps during Black Friday and can advise the best path to follow? Many thanks in advance.

Often, the best path to follow is the one that leads you to your closest branch of Richer Sounds. They'll set up a watching room for you (or will in "normal" times...) so you can see a few for yourself.

I've a QLED 65in not a 75in. I ummed and aahed on this or a OLED but I have a bright room during the day and went for the QLED in the end. I've no regrets. Another reason for me was the possible burn in, I play a lot of games so that was a factor, although I've heard the newer OLED's don't suffer from this as bad as they did in the past.

I have had a Sony 65" OLED it's this one for over a year now and think it's great, there is a newer model out now but it's hard to tell the difference in the shop.

Costco are very good on price for TV's and their warranty is great too.

Sony AG9 should sort you.

I have a Sony AF9 and it is stunning. The AG9 is newer, and goes up to a 77” screen.

We bought our first LG some time ago and one thing I'd now watch out for is the speed at which the TV turns on and becomes responsive. I'd never noticed a problem with previous TV's but this LG is an absolute slug... and it takes several minutes for it to respond to any input, the menu is also excruciatingly slow. A family member also has a LG and has noticed the same things.

Unless things have changed I wouldn't recommend a LG for this reason as I find it so annoying having to wait several minutes before I can change channels or look through the channel list on power on. Actually the menu is slow even when the TV's been on for hours.

I bought a a 65" LG Oled 2 years ago. The first one had a salmon colour cast in various areas of the screen so sent it back for a replacement, the second and third one was the same. so just kept it. A few weeks ago it started turning itself on and off every few seconds so sent it back for repair under the 5 year warranty. The guys that collected it took great care wrapping it up and strapping it carefully in the van. When it was returned 1 week later they had fixed the fault and enclosed a report saying they had replaced the screen as it had been damaged in transit. The picture is now fantastic, no colour cast at all, perfect. I believe that the original screens were faulty and they replaced mine with a new version and blamed it on transport damage. I will say the return and repair was very efficient, however the telephone call to the repair centre cost me £9.75.

How is your LG for responsiveness?

How is your LG for responsiveness?

From a review sheet.........

80% Response Time

0.1 ms

100% Response Time

0.2 ms
Like other OLED TVs, the C7 has an almost perfect response time. This results in almost no visible blur following moving objects. Unfortunately this means that low frame rate content may appear to stutter as there is no motion blur to smooth between the frames.

ah sorry, no... What I meant by responsiveness was when you turn it on how long until it's useable and once its warmed up how quickly does the channel menu load and let you scroll through it?

I ask because we are on our first LG and it's an absolute slug. When turned on it's several minutes before you can change channel and the menu is slow to load and let you scroll through even when the TV has been on for hours.

I just wondered if more recent LG's were the same or if they've speeded up at all. We've had Sony and Samsung flat screens TV's before and never noticed any issues with them.

If the new ones are still slow it would put me off buying another.

Sounds like our Virgin V6 box

our LG has a setting to turn the tv on and get going quickly, think it’s called QuickStart. It’s great, stays connected to WiFi etc., but doesn’t clear the cache from YouTube or other apps every time it comes on so I turned it off. It is now like a slug when I switch it on. Alexa turns the tv on but won’t turn channels until it’s connected to WiFi and the hamster has got the wheel spinning.

Our LG isn’t half as good as our Sony tv for picture and sound quality, and build!

I don't notice any delay at all. The screen is on within a couple of seconds and the menus are available by the time I have pressed the buttons. The only delay is when I switch the HDMI input to where my CCTV displays, but that's only a couple of seconds. We do have very fast broadband in our area so that helps with Netflix and other web based content.

Thanks for that. When we need a new TV I'll consider LG again.

We bought an LG OLED recently (a 55inch BX) and it starts up instantly. Stunning picture quality too.

I keep thinking about getting a new tv but

The old LG one I bought when we lived in Eire around 2007 is still going
The only thing wrong with it is HDMI port 3 packed in about 2years ago

You can change the settings from shut down to standby which will solve this for you.

Settled for the TCL C81 75" from Costco as they had lowered the price by £150 odd quids. So far impressed with it. Wish to pump up the volume and add a decent sound around it. Soundbars or Amp and the shebangs? Anyone has any experience and can share, please?

Soundbars are dreadful - don't waste your money. The only people that like them are those that have never had surround sound.

Or haven’t got the space for all the extra speakers or the money for the system. ;)

I’ve got a Sonos PlayBar flanked by a couple of Sonos Ones.. can’t complain!

TV Is about 15 years old (although that is still HD I believe) that I got off of Facebook for £30 5 years ago.. [emoji23]

have a Bose 700 soundbar which, after making a little effort on setup sounds fantastic. Make sure you plug a soundbar into a HDMI returning audio socket on your TV
