Hi,
I am a born again photographer, have been using a second hand 400d and a efs 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS lens its a revelation , its great not having to mess about with chemicals enlargers film tanks.

I recently rejoined a local camera club and want to start entering competitions again in the DPI and print section.

I wondered if some one could help me with some questions:
would I see a big increase in quality of print by upgrading from my old 400d to EOS7D?
is it worth me biting the bullet and getting a 5DMK11 and new glass

A lot depends on what you like photographing.

Sports and fast stuff then go for a 7D
Landscapes and people a 5D2 is a joy but not truly neccesary.

Cant say much more as I have a little of both worlds.

As for lenses remember that EF-S lenses will work on a 7D but not a 5D2 so you need to stick to one body style.

Must say I love my 5D2 but I also am rather fond of my 1d3 or I will be when I figure tha dam thing out LOL.

Unless you need to use your camera i very low light, or shoot fast stuff then your 400D is fine, save your money for fun glass that suits what you want to shoot

I recently went from a 400d to a 7d and none L 70-300 to 70-300 L, I would say glass first, body later, the 400d will do the business.

I shoot motor sports a lot so got the 7d for focus speed and shoot speed and tbh it is also a revelation.

I suspect the 5d would be too but maybe not so fast.:thumbs:

did you see a leap in quality of image? from the 400d to the 7D?
 
If you have the money to spare and are really enjoying photography again you will get an amazing amount of pleasure from a new 5D II and new "L" glass.

Whether the improvement in picture quality is worth the expenditure only you will be able to tell.
