New office chair

I don't know. But my last "work" office chair cost close to £800, and I was lucky enough to bring it home when the business closed last year.
It's a delight to sit in for a full working day.

Some of their shops may not close.

As Neil says, it's a mainly the `name` you have to pay for. Someone has to stand the cost of supplying them & advertising @ Prem football grounds.

Have a look at any local second hand shops. When offices are cleared the equipment is often in good condition.

It's a recarro for a start, the seats that go in cars cost a lot. I don't get the fad of car styled office chairs, they just aren't comfortable imo.

Personally I'm happy with my £40 ikea jobber.
If they are anything like the Recaro seats in my car or the previous car, they will be extremely comfortable.
We've just had new chairs at work, they are ok, but not perfect and definitely not worth the £250 each they paid for them. We hung on to our old ones, the top may have come off the arm rests, but they are much better than the new ones. Where I used to work they used to have a test lab back in the 80's-90's where car seats were tested. Once in a while Cosworth RS Recaro seats would end up in the scrap bin. We'd rescue them and put them on the office chair castor bases, they were heaven to sit in.
My son has a high back race car style seat we got in Argos for around £70, he loves it.

yeah my home ofice has two from there, just don't get plastic looks like leather. mine are both soft cloth material.

I have one of my old E36 M3 Evo Vader seats in storage for this exact purpose, quite possibly the most comfortable seat I've ever sat on [emoji3]

The mounts to turn car seats into office chairs are pretty well priced too, the weight is a different matter entirely though!

If I was to do this and didn't have a seat already, I'd probably choose the Mk4 Golf Recaro, cheap and damn well made!

perhaps, but then thats personal preference.

i find most car seats horribly uncomfortable after a few hours personally.

My car's seats are lovely for sitting in to drive but would be carp as office chairs IMO. Totally different sitting posture.

How the heck do they justify that ?!!
They don't have to justify it. That's how a market economy works. If people don't like the price they won't buy it.

You're absolutely correct of course. My comment was rhetorical and I couldn't see the value in an office chair. Probably no different to non photographers looking at the price of cameras & lenses I guess [emoji3]

Having just gone through the search for a decent office chair that is comfortable and good for a long day, this is what I got in the end Humanscale Freedom task chair its incredibly comfy to sit on and it supports your back which is never a bad thing and the main purpose for purchasing it but at £800 its not a cheap option but I believe they do some cheaper less supportive chairs which look just as comfortable but with less adjustability and support.

I've bought relatively cheap office chairs for my home office in the past, and they have all been crap. Generally the foam and shape goes quite quickly and they become very uncomfortable. A few months ago I bought a £500 jobbie which is absolutely superb and comfy all day.

Since shops no longer seem to sell anything useful unless you live near a huge city (I don't) I'm having a real problem replacing my old, uncomfortable study chair. Buying online isn't an option as I have to try them for size. Most chairs seem to be designed for someone bigger........ I've been through Staples' entire stock, such as it was, and everything they had was less comfortable than the tired old thing I already have. Where does anyone else go?
