I have a bit of a quandry..I dont know if I should be looking for a New Nikon d90 or a second hand d2x..I do just general photography but like the Birds and some gig type photography...I have a fuji s2 pro which I am keeping hold of and I have just sold my nikon D70 which was a diamond.

so is it bomb proofing and pro build or newer technology...I just cant seem to decide...has anyone got both cameras to compare?

cheers

You're comparing apples and oranges cheese there, of course you could have the best of both worlds and go for a D300 instead....

I would love the d300 but the price is a little prohibitive at present..sorry alot prohibitive, I have handled a d2x and loved it but I am thinking of live view and dust buster and stuff and the d90 is a little bit like the d300 too according to the mags.

i wonder how iso and picture quality compare.

have a look at the D80, you can pick one up from Jessops for £430 inc an 18-55mm VR lens. The lens will sell for circa £90 on ebay so you've got a great camera body for £340 and £300+ to then spend on glass...It's what I did earlier in the week for my wife, I'm so impressed with the D80 I'm going to pick one up myself today!:D

Hmmmm... this a real chalk and cheese question!

Really different animals - you could get a D2X for the price of the D90, and normally I'd say this is a no brainer (if you are OK with the size)

However gigs implies low-light and here the D90 will be much better, by around 1 1/2 to 2 stops. The D2X will focus much better in low-light but the D2X is shamefully bad at high ISO.

If you shot below ISO400 I'd say D2X without a shadow of a doubt. The gig thing leads me to suggest the D90.

thanks for the input everyone i am wondering if i should hang on until the new year and get the d300 as the saying goes buy in haste and repent at leisure..its just that my secret pocket money stash is burning a hole in my pocket.

cheers

If you watch Ebay carefully Jessops (Clear-r-gear) put Nikon-refurb D300s up now and again with a 12 month warranty for a Buy it Now of £640...

At that price (although they always seem to get snapped up by traders), I'd go with the D300.

thanks guys and I will watch the jessops refurbs link..i am hoping with the vat reduction and the popularity of the d700 that the d300's will drop in price....they are going second hand for about 650 on the MBR photography (TP sponsors at the bottom of the web page) and 850ish new in hong kong and with no vat and ex demo in UK at present on ebay, so fingers crossed.

thankyou again for the input and advice
