Just a quick price search reveals at this being the cheapest deal going, especially with 5 years warranty. I thought Nikon offerred 2 years at best.

This is £10 more than the Jacobs Digital price posted last week, but sadly, they have put it back up to £599.99.

I have no idea how reputable that e-tailer is.

The 5 year warranty suggests that it's not a Nikon ones, so the camera is more than likely a grey import, which means should the seller go bust and you require warranty work Nikon won't do it for you.

Will Nikon not let you register a grey import or can't you plead ignorance?

I'm holding out buying one till after Xmas anyway but before the VAT rises, in case there are any on sale.

However, if you do buy this one using a credit card, your cc company will be liable for any repair costs, 3rd party replacement warranty should they go bust within the 5 years. I have been in this situation before with a laptop.

Its the same company as Camerabox.

Search on this site for camerabox and you will find a lot of unhappy punters.

To resurrect this thread, how can I tell which etailers sell UK stock and which sell grey imports? Price and warranty only?

The warranty is the main way to tell, all genuine UK stock will come with a 2-year (1+1) Nikon warranty.

The boxes tend to be different on US-market cameras and iirc the serial numbers start "US" (that may just apply to lenses though), however if you're buying online none of this will help as you won't get to inspect the product before buying, so the warranty is the only real way to tell.

Yes, they do; might use this for leverage in reducing the asking price of £500 for shop sold second hand ones. They do hold their value well, these cameras.
