This is a more sensible price, IMO, than the 2K that we've seen these going for in recent weeks and might be all it takes to push a few 'doubters' over the edge ;). Admittedly, I paid more than this for mine, but I don't regret it for a second. It's a great piece of glass .

Anyway, just posted for info, so that anyone who does a search on this lens might save themselves some money ;).

Yup, seen it and ordered one this morning, hence why my 80-200 is now up for sale in the classifieds :D

With all the problems it has been having i guess it had to come down in price. has the interior peeling been sorted now?

 Cool! I hope that it lives up to expectations.

The VRII function is quite incredible, compared to the VR on the 70-300 (for example). I've had consistently very sharp hand-held captures at 1/8th or 1/10th sec - pity that the subjects were a it boring :p!

I just bought one for £1600 :)

I'll tell you all about it in my Nikon buying fest thread when I write it ;)

I'm sure it'll be great, all the reviews I have read have raved about it, the peeling paint issue (actually probably marks in a casting) seem to have been related to a particular batch. I will be checking though!

I eagerly await your thread Ali :D

It never was a problem. Its very tiny casting marks and only visible when zoomed to 200mm and if you shine a light in the front at an angle. The so called pixie dust is also nothing to worry about.
Some people should spend more time looking through the correct end of the lens. :D

Kev.

I can confirm that my news lens which has just arrived has no such marks in it  in fact it's very nice, the VR is mental!
