New Nikon 35mm f/1.8 FX lens

Does look quite good, won't be swapping my Sigma 35mm for it, US price seems to be $600... suspect we'll end up at £500-£600 over here - when the Sigma is £620 the only thing I can see this has is size/weight, which I'd admit is a benefit at times as the Sigma is heavy!

I'm assuming the price will drop after release to approx. £400 from rrp. But at £600 I' hard pressed to see any advantage over the sigma

Price will Drop, the sigma was about 750? when it 1st come out ? The new lens weight a lot less then the sigma one. Good if you want travel light.

This is probably a stupid question, but what's the difference between that lens and this one, Nikkor 35mm f1.8 that's been on-sale for a while?

The supported format. The one you linked to is only DX - i.e. it has a reduced image circle and will vignette heavily on a full frame camera - the new one is an FX lens and so will work on both DX & FX. There are other differences as in how they are built (number and type of elements etc) but in every day use the difference is one is DX specific, the new one will do both. That and a few hundred £££s ;)

Fair enough. Cheers for replying; it's probably quite a noob question - I've only had a DSLR for a year and need to read up!

I wouldn't be swapping my Sigma 35 for it either. But I would have loved this lens over a year ago!

I wish they'd update the 135mm though!!

The dx 35mm is actually quite usuable at further focal distances on FX, its only when you start focusing closer that it vignettes.
