My ipod Classic 120gb is on it's last legs and the headphone socket is knackered. It still works fine in the dock and in the car so I'm happy to use it for that til it packs in altogether. However, I do need something for when I'm out walking with the dog.

Seeing as how the morons at Apple have stopped making high capacity players I'm reluctant to give them any more of my hard earned. Was toying with the idea of a cheap player and using anything up to a 128gb micro SD card or a selection of smaller ones for this purpose. Ebay is awash with them starting at a couple of quid. The sound don't have to be that great and it will be purely for music, no vids or photos and games or any of that stuff. Any suggestions or experience with such things.

Cheers in advance.

Try doing some research yourself ,instead of waiting for people to lead you by the hand for the rest of your worthless life.

You wanna buy my beachcaster?

I have done a bit of research but thought I'd ask on here too. If it's anything to do with you like.

What kinda Beachcaster is it?

A long one.......:)

I`ll stick an ad up for the lot, reel, tripod, rod and other bits, never took to it at all.

Why not just use your mobile phone? Add an SD Card to it if necessary and off you go...

I have some music on there I but for some reason my new PC seems to have a problem recognising my fone. I suppose I could try loading songs straight onto the SD card that's in it. Never thought of that. It's only 32gb but that could well hold more than enough of a choice of music for walking the dog.

Yes that should be plenty for a dog walk :)

What does your dog listen to?

I love my sansa clip 8gp, with the option to add a 32gb

It is thoughtful of him to buy his dog an mp3 player though

If you're happy reloading playlists from time to time, a smaller capacity iPod will do the job for you. The other problem those lovely people at crapple have dumped on iPod classic users (and other devices that use the 30 pin connector) is the newer Lightening connector which needs a £25 adaptor to use with the older docks and car connections.

That kind of thing sounds about right for my needs. Will it play songs taken from itunes (I have no idea about file formats etc). All my music is in itunes on my PC so I'd be looking to compile some new playlists and burning them onto the player/SD card.

Yeh, I was hit with that too. Another reason I'm not keen to give them rip off merchant any more of my lolly.

If 32GB is enough then why don't you get the 32GB iPod Touch that "the morons at Apple" sell?

Just a matter of finding where your songs are on your pc bud, then use windows media player rather than itunes as a media library.

Assuming your on a windows pc?

Far too expensive. In addition to the reasons I have given I ain't paying that amount of cash (especially to them) for a player for walking the dog.

Generally you can just drag/drop from iTunes onto the mounted SD card and it will copy the files out. Alternatively there is the excellent DoubleTwist tool that can keep it synchronised. If you've got some old iTunes files with DRM on them, you should be able to select them in iTunes and with a right click change them to a generic MP3....

All pretty straightforward :)

Yeh, I do but it's a pain in the @rse transferring the files across and WMP ain't that great from memory. I've already transferred all my music files from my SSD because to was full on to my HD. Had to ask on here how to do that too coz I'm a complete numpty.

Cheers. Not fussed about sync as there's about 80gb of stuff on my itunes. I'd just be compiling new play lists and using them. Will that work direct onto the SD card and play ok on the player. I remember doing this with CD's with stuff taken from itunes and they didn't play on some players.

If your music is another format than MP3 there is a change it wouldn't play on your phone. As such it is best to convert them into MP3, however if you haven't bought anything through the iTunes store that will be unlikely.

With regards to your CD not playing, it was most likely a case that the player couldn't play files from a CD. When you drag and drop it will copy the files, and not necessarily create an Audio CD. The good news is that for an SD Card you want to just copy the files.

I would just use your phone and give that a try.

All the stuff I have on itunes is direct from CD (or ripped from Youtube shhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!;)). Nothing at all has been ever purchased from iTunes store.

I just use my Samsung phone
I put in a 64gb micro card and copied and pasted the albums from the iTunes folder on the pc
Windows 7 asks if I want to convert the format when I paste them onto the phones memory card
it works a treat I've all my music on my phone:)

In that case you'll be fine. Just drag and drop it across.

Been a while since apple have made anything with that capacity lol. I've not had anything apple since the touch first came out. I think that's what it's called anyway, the one with the tiny screen that you could watch videos on.

Cheers all.

Thanks Munch. Did a fair bit more research and plumped for the 4gb version of the Sansa Clip+ new from a 100% feedback seller on ebay and a 32gb micro SD card from 7DayShop.com. Should give me over 9000 tracks. Job done for £50 in total.

I would suggest that if you get through 9000 songs whilst walking the dog you have walked to far.

:D:DYeh, and then I'll have nothing new to listen to on the way home.

I've got a Fiio X5 and it's amazing!

I use it to drive all sorts of headphones and also as a USB DAC when I'm on my travels with a laptop.

Great product, massive storage capacity available via SD cards and I could use it to knock nails in it's that sturdy!

Loads of EQ options etc as well, and will play any format of audio (well it's played everything i've thrown at it so far)
