Yes
I may soon be doing a 250 mile drive up to London and then home again weekly for a few months, maybe as many as 18, and the driving seat of my Berlingo gives me a sore back, so can anyone offer any advice about replacement seats - who to go to, what to look for and what to think about as this is yet another thing I know nothing about..!
Many thanks for any suggestions and replies.

I had three Citroen AX models, and a Citroen C1. I had to adjust the seating so it was in a more lying back position in all four of them, not the best seat designs. If I was on a longer drive, I would prop my back with a comfy cushion.

Instead of replacing the whole seat, have you considered looking for some lumbar support?

You can bolt any seat in you like if you don't mind drilling through the floor. You will need spread plates on the underside though.

Well, thanks for all the replies so far!
I'll look into the suggestions when I get home but some sort of lumbar support looks like it has to be worth trying!

How old is it? A lot of cars have airbag sensors under the seat so you cannot just replace them with any old seat. A cushion of some kind is probably best. If you have cruise control then it will be more comfortable. It's also worth checking the ergonomics advice about setting a driving seat up correctly to make sure it's right. Altering steering wheel rake or seat height slightly might just make all the difference.

Maybe just consider a better and nicer car or a van?

In many ways this would be the best solution, as the Berlingo is such a cheaply built and not very economical vehicle, but sadly I cannot afford to replace it for at least a year, so I'll be looking into the 'Backfriend' that Peter B mentioned today..

I'll also look into setting up the seat as Suz suggested.

I can wade in here bwing a long distance weekly commuter myself.
I work in Erskine Glasgow and live in Huddersfield so every other I drive back and forth.

my tuppence is move the seat back and let your legs stretch out more and lean the seat back as well thus lessening the angle of the lower back and hip joint. also oddly make sure you are wearing comfy trousers no diggy in belts or snug waists as that also aggrevated my back a bit.

My daughter had similar problems in her Berlingo ,it was cured when the car burst into flames one morning on her drive to work

I’m assuming she wasn’t roasted in situ.

nope jumped out and waited for the fire brigade ,car was a write off

That's ok then....about the escape, not the write off.
Ot was really the most concerning part and you left it out! ;)
(well, apart from it being a Citroen, which is always troubling)

What about a removable device like the Backfriend? https://www.backinaction.co.uk/backfriend?gclid=CMPVt5mivM0CFcSRGwodrpoOOw There are other similar devices, but I seem to recall this company being on the go for years, so presumably it must work?

Just to update this - I got a backfriend as Peter B suggested, and have just had a 600 mile return journey over 2 days - It ain't the most comfortable thing, but I didn't suffer any pain, and have to say it is well worth the money - Thanks Peter !
